Refuse the job.

I have a bad feeling about this guy. Something tells me there's more to the story than he's letting on, and I don't want to stumble into a nasty surprise. Lady Rinelda can keep her jewel for now. He's angry when I tell him I won't take the job, but he backs down soon enough. I have a way of being persuasive.

Still, I need money. I can't do without a job forever.

I finish my drink and leave the tavern. I know the Adventurer's Guild runs a guildhouse on the outskirts of town, where itinerant mercenaries like me can sometimes pick up work. I haven't paid my dues in a while, but maybe they'll have something for me.
