Chapter 32 by Debbuger Debbuger

Is she being followed?

Flight of the Oracle

Barbara drove in an incredible speed on the hillside roads, afraid to look at the mirror and see a black figure on a motorcycle chasing her. In her current state, Barbara is no match to the fierce warrior, once when she held the mantle of Batgirl, she could defeat and dispatch the young daughter of assassins, but now wheelchair ridden, she had nothing but her upper torso. Sure, she can defend herself, but she won't be able to make any attack on the girl.

Barbara changed the Batmobile III to its civilian exterior, she disconnected any connection to the main computer and made sure no one saw this change. She had no idea where to turn to in this hour of the night, it was nearing dawn soon. Also she had no idea what Batman will do. She was clearly a threat to him, not physically but she knew everything about him and his ways. She was dangerous for him, even though she knew he wouldn't believe Barbara will risk herself in exposing him. There was almost nowhere she could hide from him, almost no one who could shelter her, because when he will finally decide to dispose of her, and he will, there is almost no **** on earth that can stop him.

And then a thought came to her, Cassandra. Barbara's eyes widen as she just realized Cassandra was held by the police, and Batman must've broke her out. She just hoped, because on a capture of such a big scale, the commissioner surely will come and examine it, She had to make sure her father was okay.

Dawn broke as she entered downtown, the first rays of light reflected on the crest of the GCPD above the entrance of the police headquarters, and as she came to a halt, the broken doorway was already lit in the morning light. It seemed as if a battering ram smashed through it, the enormous oak door was splintered on the ground, as paramedics and police-officers passed through the entrance.

"Hey! can you help me! I need help!" She shouted towards a tall man exiting the doorway and heading in her direction, a severe and troubled look on his face. She was on the pavement, her chair still where Cassandra kicked her off it. Knowing someone will take pity of an attractive damsel in distress and help her reach her goal, Barbara continued to cry for help. **** times, **** means, she thought. "Please.. The Commissioner, my father I need to make sure he is okay!" she called as the man drew closer, his gaze fixed on hers, she saw the look of a decision being made in those silver eyes the man had. "Can you walk?" He asked. "No, I'm paralyzed, I lost my chair, I need help.. please take me to my father, let me know he is fine." she pleaded again.

The man picked her up and carried her inside, she guided him right towards the holding cells. Barbara saw as paramedics put **** police-officers on stretchers and took them away. She noticed a yellow colour near the AC exits, and how those who wake up do so slowly while grabbing their head. Batman used gas to knock them out, she was relieved he didn't use ****, she knew it would be a much grim sight should he had used his brute **** exclusively.

As they came down the stairway before entering the holding area, a loud argument could be heard. Barbara was happy to hear her father's voice competing against his top Captain, Sonia. "Do you SEE what a monster he is? He just attacked the fucking police headquarters to free his murderous underling.. where is the fucking justice here, if he is so keen on preserving it?" Sonia shouted, ironic seeing how she was sleeping with the Batman, Barbara thought. "I don't disagree he will pay for this, but no, I will not start a bloody war on the world right now. There is no reason to get the army here, we will handle it." the Commissioner returned. "We don't need to turn Gotham into a battlefield.. Barbara? What are you doing here?" he was distracted by the sight of his daughter being carried to him by one of his men.

"Dad, I was worried, I heard what happened, I wanted to make sure you are alright." The redhead said to her father, as a look of confusion settled on his face. "But... why is Adam carrying you. where is your chair, what happened?" Barbara was caught off guard, in her flight and the realisation her father might be in danger or hurt, she forgot about who she really was to him, a helpless cripple. "I... I fell and someone pushed the chair.. a car ran it over, it was destroyed" she lied, she knew she would need to back this up somehow, but she will deal with one cow at a time. "Come here let's seat you down. You know I love you, I was just worried myself." He said as he took her, hugged her, kissed her on the forehead and rested her on a bench. "We will need to get you a chair so we can get you back home. I'm glad you aren't hurt." he finished, looking at her with a loving smile he could muster.

"I can get her a temporary one from the hospital, I wanted to head there anyway" the tall man who carried her said to her father. "We are on high alert, no time to run on personal errands" Sonia interjected, clearly not fond of men deserting their posts in a time of war. The man had an urgent look on his face, and could be seeing ready to make a plead, "You can go, it's not even your first day officially and you already had done so much. And even though Lydia assured me you are fine, I want you to get checked, no one who stands against the Black one or Batman had ever walked away unscathed." Barbara's father decreed, the man in question nodded, gave a small bow to the Captain and went away. Barbara took notice of the man as he headed up the stairs.

How is the wounded girl?
