Where will you meet?
Basement of the library
While your dorm room would provide more privacy, you are afraid it might raise some suspicions, so you schedule the meeting to take place in a small classroom in the basement of the library. It will be fairly secluded, and it seems like the sort of place in which something like this would normally occur.
When the time comes for the session, you arrive at the room and find that two girls are already there. Cassie is a Hispanic girl with a fairly-small frame, long, black hair, and olive skin. Diedra is African-American, with braided black hair. They both look self-conscious and unsure of themselves.
You enter the room and arrange four chairs in a small circle and invite the girls to take a seat. As they do, Janet enters the room. With long red hair, tied in back in a pony tail, she is tall, and her face is freckled. She is also nervous, but seems to have a bit more self-confidence than the others.
You usher her to a chair, put the “Occupied” sign on the door and close it, and take the remaining chair in the circle.
You introduce yourself and have each of the girls introduce themselves, as well. Once that is done, they all look at you expectantly.
“As you know,” you begin, trying to sound as if you know what you’re talking about, “the purpose of this group is to share openly about the struggles we are facing so we can, together, come up with adequate coping mechanisms.”
“We?” asks Janet. “Are you in the same boat that we are?”
What do you say?
