You twist out of the way just in the nick of time. La Diabla growls in frustration as her legs snap shut on empty air.

“Whoa, La Diabla just misses one of her infamous scissorholds! That could have been nasty for John if she’d managed to clinch it,” comments the announcer.

“You’re not getting out of this that easy,” you tell her with a smirk, tightening your grip.

La Diabla seems to acknowledge this, abandoning her attempts to trap you in favor of another tactic. Reaching out with her free arm, she grabs a fistful of the canvas and uses it as a grip to drag the two of you along, grunting with the exertion and strain. You’re not really sure what she’s doing at first, until you realize: she’s dragging both of you toward the ropes.

You dig your feet in and try to stop your motion, but Angelica draws back her other arm and slams an elbow into your ribs. The sudden shock and pain makes you loosen both your hold and your grip on the mat for a moment, buying her time to drag herself just a little closer, almost within arm’s reach of the ropes.

She stretches her arm out desperately in a last-ditch attempt to go for the rope break. Her whole body twists and strains toward the ropes as she tries to buy herself those couple extra inches. The people in the closest seats are standing up or leaning forward, eager to catch a glimpse of how this turns out.

La Diabla’s hand starts to drop as your chokehold takes its toll. Little by little, it falls...

...until it drapes itself over the bottom rope.

“Break!” calls the ref, as you snarl in frustration and let her go.

“La Diabla saves herself by a hair with a clutch rope break,” narrates the announcer, “but can she start to turn things around from here?”
