Chapter 3 by Spindizzy Spindizzy

Who's making contact?

Gina Mitchell

At first, Gina Mitchell thought she was dreaming. Sitting up in bed she then assumed the snatches of conversation she could hear drifting from the other room simply meant she had left the TV on.

Not bothering to dress she stumbled towards her bedroom door. The murmuring speech resolved into audible words as she got closer.

“Are you sure this scanner is correctly calibrated N’vox?” a male voice was asking. “This area is designated for food processing but half this stuff is reading as toxic to the local fauna.”

“I checked it twice Grex." a female voice replied her long-suffering tone suggested this was not the first time she'd had this conversation. “Just take the scans and let the big brains back on the ship worry about interpreting them.”

Must be some sci-fi thing?” Gina thought still half asleep

She pulled open the door and stepped into the lounge of her apartment. The room was filled with a sickly purple light that illuminated by far the strangest sight she had ever seen. It was a pair of creatures so bizarre she struggled to understand what they could be.

One was a roughly cube-shaped block of translucent goo about three feet by three. It sat on top of her coffee table. Inside it, she could see her cell phone and an old magazine floating along with several other objects she couldn't identify. Beyond that, a writhing mass of tentacles the size of a beach ball hovered in her kitchenette. It was holding a jar of coffee in one sucker covered pseudo-pod and a silver metal box in another. It blinked at Gina with a cluster of disturbingly human looking eyes.

How do the creatures react?
