Chapter 17

what do they see?
Search for the succubus
Hauk and Tera split up to work their way through the party in their search for Demonica, the premise of that being that Hauk’s training and Tera’s instincts were enough for them to find her on their own. However, taking her down would probably require both of them. Therefore, the two made sure to look for one another every minute or so, to minimize the risk of one of them ending up on her or his own.
As the two moved over the room, three young women danced in the centre of it: the three looked very similar, identical almost save for their hair, one redhead, one blonde and the last one’s hair being purple in colour. Three danced in sync, slowly stripping out of one flimsy garment after the other, while most of the gathered nobles and merchants looked on with growing excitement.
Demonica would probably not be found there, Hauk figured, due to her need of perverting the pure, a group which in these lands seldom could be found ogling strippers.
Instead, he focused on the fringes of the large hall, while nonchalantly taking a sip of the champagne that he had been served, engaging in small talk with all that he met.
More used to either playing an uncivilized fool or acting along the lines of his own personality as that of a straightforward, no-nonsense fighter from the northern wastes, it took some getting used to being a noble.
But once he got the hang of it, he had no problems with making the ones he talked to feel at ease, something which helped him to try and “sniff” whether or not they were demonic.
Tera was having more problems on her side, as few of the women seemed keen on engaging in conversation with her, even if the men were more than eager to court her.
Hauk now spotted how a young, black-haired woman was moving out of the room, her left arm wrapped around the waist of a buxom blonde, who Hauk had been introduced to earlier.
The young miss was apparently one Gina of Derrana, set to be married to one of the city’s foremost knights in just a little more than just a week and, more importantly to Hauk: she was not the demon.
Realizing that the raven-hair could be the one he was after, he exited the conversation that he had been engaged in, and followed the two from a distance.
Tera, spotting Hauk moving out of the hall, was relieved to be able to leave the dreadfully boring conversation that the city’s leading cattle merchant had **** her to endure.
The unknown woman led Gina through the floor and into a small room, closing the door behind her.
Hearing the door being locked, Hauk settled down and waited for Tera, who soon caught up with him.
Once Tera arrived, now having pulled up the crossbow-pistol that she had kept in her bag, Hauk proceeded towards the door, slamming it of its hinges with one powerful kick.
