Chapter 111

Do you have more questions?
Yes, and they have more answers
"Do you think that made her commit suicide?" you ask, looking at the two women.
"Hell, I'm not even sure she committed suicide," Lorri answers, as Donna casts a wary glance at her.
"What are you saying. That she fell off an overpass by accident?" Lorri looks at her glass and takes a deep swig, looking at you before she answers.
"I'm saying that it seems a funny place to be taking a walk at three in the morning. About four miles from here, and she must have walked it, since her car was still here. I'm saying that there were some hysterical girls said they saw her taken away that night. I'm saying that things around here shut down, information wise, right after."
You look at her, trying to keep expression off your face, waiting for her to continue. When she doesn't you take a pull on your beer.
"And then what?"
"And then some girls were expelled. And a teacher resigned and two were fired. All of it within a day. Reasons 'confidential'. Like a curtain got pulled down."
"And you think they were all connected? Veronica and all this other stuff?"
"I don't know," she shakes her head, glancing at Donna who mirrors the shake. "But I don't like coincidences."
"And there's more. Or maybe there is," Donna adds. "It's hard to tell with girls at this age. Sometimes they discover their hormones and go crazy without any outside help. Sometimes they get...inspired...by their friends."
"Like Veronica's personality changed," you say.
"Yeah. And a year later a few other girls. Honestly, every year there's a few girls who go a little crazy. It's the first time away from home for many of them, and they're thinking of themselves as adults, but not sure how to be an adult. So they act out."
"Who are you talking about?"
"Tamara Longmire, for one. I hear you've already encountered her. She came here like the prim and proper upper class dream teen, but it didn't take long before she was...acting out. Showing off for the male help, that kind of thing."
"Banged three guys from Hamilton at one of the mixers. She got found out near the rose garden with her dress around her hips and her legs in the air, guys taking turns at her."
"You caught her?"
"No Christina Thorpe did. She scared them off and gave Tamara a girl talk, but it didn't take. At least not for long."
"Her roommate Theresa got strange too," Lorri adds. Donna shakes her head, and takes another sip of her drink.
"I don't think I've met her."
"Theresa Maglio," Lorri says. "She kind of went a different way though. Came here she was pretty much your normal teenage girl. A little silly and goofy, kind of a nice kid. But she went away for a long weekend with Theresa. When she came back she was sullen and withdrawn and flat out disturbed. And then she started showing herself off to the gardeners. And not subtle either. Lifting her skirt up, right out in public. The other girls started teasing her. She got hysterical a few times. Ran crying out of my class after that snotty bitch Margot Childers made fun of her. Rose Newton and Chanel Vallon were part of it too."
"Not long after that she had some...protectors show up," Donna says, taking up the story. "Two guys who walked her to class and waited outside for her."
"Bent noses if I ever saw some," Lorri snorts, then chuckles at your puzzled expression. "Probably from her grandfather. Don't shake your head at me girl, you think the same thing," she lightly slaps at Donna's arm. You look puzzled, not sure what they're talking about.
"Terry Maglio's grandfather is a gangster," Donna says, raising her eyebrows as she takes a sip of her drink.
How do you respond to that?
