Who or what answers the door?

An ordinary nun

Chapter 7 by lrocks911 lrocks911

Not a second later one of the gates is pulled back a smidgen, and a person steps in from the gap. A completely normal, ordinary nun, wearing the standard habit (uniform) that they wear back at home.

“We’ve been expecting you. Please, come in.” The mysterious nun said.

“Oh, uh…” He really didn’t expect all this to be happening.

The nun didn’t hear his awkward stammerings though, as she had already started to pull both the gate doors back allowing him entry.

“Right…” He timidly walked in, and the nun closed the gate behind him. The smells of myrrh and frankincense were heavy in the air. Lit torches and candles lined the walls.

Once his eyes had better adjusted to the dimmer light, he expected to see a chancel, a sanctuary, or at least some other remotely convent-y looking thing – hell, maybe even some stairs from the outside looks, but he now faced a singular long hallway with doors uniformly lining the sides. It was dead empty inside.

“Coming?” The nun called back.

Can’t go five seconds without being awkward it seems. Hurrying along, he quickly catches up with the nun, who had already stopped next to a door.

“This is your living quarters.” The nun pushed the door open for him, and quickly began to leave.

He was just about to stop her, but the amount of questions he had right now paralyzed him. And perhaps it would be better not to ask any questions for the time being?
