Chapter 15 by Courageousbraves Courageousbraves

Can Tim be forgiven?

No, he can't

It took Jen a while to figure out what to do. After his initial plea, Tim had fallen silent. Jen watched him, frozen, until the lights began to dim. On the second night, the dimming lights were tinged with red, closer to a real sunset, but the crimson color that painted the rooms was anything but beautiful to Tim and Jen. Tim saw his hands, turned blood red by the lights, and finally, his grief and shame overcame him, and he cried loudly, red tears rolling down into his stubble.

The change of the light and the sudden sobbing shook Jen out of her guilt-ridden daze. Before she knew what she was doing, she had already opened the door to the first room and walked to Jack, in the corner of the room, still asleep on the bed he'd shared with Anne. She hesitated for a few minutes, but eventually, before the last of the light slipped away, she gently shook him awake.

The first thing he saw was Jen's teary-eyed, ashamed face, lit by the barest shred of red light. "What's wrong?" He asked her. He felt something missing. "Where's Anne?"

She brought him to the other room while stifling her sobs. She couldn't tell him, but she had to show him. When he saw Anne, he prayed that she was just sleeping, but even before he held her cold body in his hands, he knew she was already gone.

Tim didn't ask for Jack's forgiveness. The weak red light had finally turned to pitch black when Jack reached out for Anne. They couldn't see anything in the darkness. But Tim still felt that his hands were stained with red. He would accept whatever punishment Jack felt he deserved.

The only noise was Jen's sobbing. She wanted to leave, to escape to the first room, but she couldn't move. The room was colder than usual. Jack felt anger, and hatred. And then he felt that hot fury slipping away, draining into the cold, dark walls, and leaving nothing but a bone-chilling, icy sorrow.

"Just go," Jack said, as the first, cold tears rolled down his cheeks. "Leave us alone."

Tim crawled to the door, finding his way with his hands in the pitch black. He found Jen standing in the way, and took her hand. She let him drag her through the doorway, leaving Jack alone with his dead lover.

He stayed there, in the chilling darkness, holding her, until the lights came back on.

What are the captives given on the third day?
