She makes an offer

Despite the warning from Diana Naylor about her at last night's faculty meeting, your ingrained courtesy kicks in and you shake the young woman's hand and wish her good morning.

"I was up near the school and I saw you come out of the driveway. I figured you had to be the intriguing new Dean of Students on his vintage motorcycle and I couldn't resist the opportunity to meet you." Despite her disarming smile you can see a bright probing intelligence in her eyes that makes you wary.

"Headmistress Naylor has asked that you direct any questions to her," you say as the waitress returns and takes your order of eggs and bacon. Holly asks for toast as the waitress pours her coffee, then turns her full attention on you.

"Of course she did. And she responds with platitudes and prepared statements that attorney's vetted for her. Classic stonewall techniques. But surely she wouldn't object to you having breakfast with a pretty young woman, Mr. Hawkfeather? After all, you are allowed a social life aren't you?"

"Is that what this is?" you say with a short laugh. "A breakfast date?"

"Think of it as a reconnaissance mission. For both of us. I'm guessing there are things you don't know about your new employer, and I know you could shed light on a few things. Now you can get up and walk out of here, and miss out on a pretty decent breakfast, or you can listen to me for a few minutes before you do anything. You don't have anything to lose. And maybe what you learn can help you out." She gives you a direct look and a smile. "What do you say Marine?"
