Considering the scarcity of employment opportunities...
Under normal circumstances, you would be totally perplexed as to what to do. However, these are far from normal circumstances. As you have no other reliable jobs available, and a woman to take care of as well as yourself, off in a distant and strange land, you need to take what you can get. It takes you only a few moments to decide, even though it feels like a long time. "Well, I suppose I don't have any better options. I'll do it," you say with a nervous gulp. Robinson smiles wide and congratulates you on your decision, throwing his arm around you in an almost fatherly way. He then leads you out of the room and through the back of the house, which opens onto an area of dusty cleared land between the house and the nearby forests. A few small, unimpressive wooden shacks a scattered throughout the area. Robinson, hand on you back, leads you to the most distant one at a trundling pace. "They cost me quite a bit they did, but it's an investment, an' you'll be the one tuh make it good lad," he says with his usual good humor.
When you reach the shack he opens the door. Sunlight spills into the dark room and a series of dark faces turn their attention towards the opening. Your tall frame stands imposing in the doorway, blocking much of the light that might otherwise get through. You see the looks of the African women, mildly curious yet also lethargic and dispassionate as they gaze at the disturbance. "These are your new workmates! I'm sure you'll get along jus' fine!" Robinson say with a small laugh. You scan the dark room as best you can. While the women are mostly of similarly dark skin-tone, with usually dark, curly hair, there is a wide variety in age, looks, and shape of the dozen or so women sharing the cabin. Before you can get too good of a look Robinson closes the door again.
"You can get down to 'work' anytime ya feel up tuh it. It's like me ma always said: 'You cain't rush romance!'" he says, guffawing so deeply at his own joke that he has to stop mid-walk. "Ah, yes. Jus' don't take advantage of me hospitality an' all will be well" With that the two of you part ways, and you return to Buchi. As you re'enter the room you see she has fallen asleep, looking peaceful for once. You dab the sweat from her face and lay down beside her, thinking deeply about this new chapter in your life.
