The beginning of a war

The next day, you go into the Tribune's offices for the first time in days. You had stayed up late last night to write your story about Carmen and you're tired from the lack of sleep. You even included a long section about how Bruno tried to bribe you with the trip to Dubai, although you leave out the part about him having a magic ring that gives him infinite amounts of luck.

You march into the offices with your story in hand, ready to submit it to Laura, when you notice there's a gloomy mood in the newsroom. You're intrigued, but you have your own agenda, so you head straight to Laura's office where the door is open and you walk in. Inside, you're greeted by a weird sight. Amanda, Laura's assistant, is packing up Laura's belongings into boxes while the editor is typing at her desk.

"I have my story," you announce, walking up to Laura's desk.

Laura looks up from her computer screen, clearly annoyed. "So? Haven't you heard?" she says.

"Heard what?"

"You don't have a job here anymore. Bruno Riley bought the paper."

You're surprised that Bruno moved so fast against you. "What... No, but you... I have those pictures. You have to protect me."

Laura laughs. "Protect you? John, he shut the paper down. We're all out of a job."

Stunned that Bruno would go so far, you leave Laura's office without another word. Just before you get into the elevator, you get a call from your father. Apparently, Bruno has bought the family auction house too, though he did pay a hefty amount for it. It doesn't exactly hurt you, but you suspect that's not his intent. He wants you to know that nothing is out of reach for him. Needing to regroup, you teleport back to the mansion, only to find Olivia crying in the den. You console her, but also find out that she has somehow been kicked out of her college. Knowing that it can't be a coincidence, you do some research, and as you suspected, Bruno sits on the board of the university Olivia goes to.

Just as things couldn't get worse, the doorbell rings. Hardly anybody knows where you live. Ever since you've moved in, you haven't heard the doorbell ring once, so you go see who it is. You open the door, and standing outside are 2 men in dark suits. Both of them reach into their jackets at the same time and flash their credentials at you.

"IRS," one of them says.

"We received an anonymous tip that this property was transferred to you without any proper documentation or taxes paid. Is that correct?"

"Well... I, uh, we uh..." you stutter, not sure how to respond. Behind the IRS agents, you see more cars pulling up and out of them step out more agents. "I'm sure this is just a paperwork issue," you say.

"Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. In the meantime, we're possessing this house," the first agent hands you a warrant of some kind and steps past you into the house. You just stand there, no idea what to do. You're sure Bruno has something to do with this.
