Chapter 82 by Shandy Shandy

What now?

Conversation and a revelation

"It looks like he's pretty serious," you say to Mason as the two of you leave the office.

"As a heart attack," he says with a chuckle. "I don't think these spoiled brats have a clue what they're in for."

"You obviously approve."

"Don't you? From what I've seen in only two days I think he's just what the doctor ordered. I don't believe in corporal punishment as a general rule, but for these rich little snots I'm willing to make an exception."

"I guess. I never thought about it much to be honest. You seem to have a dislike of rich people."

"Not rich people, the way some rich people act. Like their shit doesn't stink and that they get a free pass through life, behaving with impunity to everyone who isn't in what they decide is their class. I despise those kinds of rich people."

"Fair enough I guess. But how would you feel if it was your kid getting paddled?"

He stops and looks at you, and you see pain in his face for a moment, like you've opened a wound. "I don't know. Probably not good. But my child is dead, so I'll never know."

"I'm sorry," you say, suddenly embarrassed. "I didn't...I'm sorry for your loss."

He looks at you for a minute, then takes a deep breath as if mastering his emotions.

"Its not your fault. And it's a long time ago," he says, starting to walk again. "What are you doing until the orientation meeting?"

"No plans. Why?"

"I thought I'd walk up to the top of the campus," he gestures with one hand. "If you'd care to join me, come along."

Do you join him?
