Finally.

Sometime in the night your whirling mind allows you to sleep. When you wake the morning sun is filling your room and you grab your robe and stagger out into the hallway just as Brian leaves the bathroom.

"I'm done in there," he says cheerfully. "I thought I'd check the dining hall for breakfast. I'll wait if you're not going to be long." You nod and mutter an affirmative, before closing the bathroom door and starting the process of waking up.

Fifteen minutes later you're showered, shaved and dressed in a soft casual shirt and slacks. A knit tie is knotted around your neck and you wear a favourite tweed jacket. You look like the prototype of an old fart teacher you sneer at your reflection, before going downstairs to meet Brian.

He's looking satisfied with himself, and you feel a moment of envy for his youth and athleticism.

"You look like you've been up for a while," you say, trying to keep the sourness out of your tone as the two of you walk towards the campus.

"I went for a run around the lake. I need to get back to running every morning. I've been letting it slip. If you want to join me we could go tomorrow."

"My knees won't stand up to running and I doubt I could keep up with you. Is there a trail?"

"A pretty good one, right around the lake," he nods. "Some side trails too but I don't know where they go."

"Maybe I'll take a walk there, it sounds pretty."

"It is. Very secluded and peaceful too," he grins as the two of you step into the dining hall.
