Chapter 4

Do you tell her about the Rulebook?
No way!
As much as you adore Christina, there was absolutely no way you were going to tell her about something like this, especially before you got a chance to truly mess around with it. The last thing you wanted was her telling you what you should do with it rather than letting you experiment. You put a hand on the notebook and pull it closer to yourself, telling her, "Oh, I just figured it would be handy to have something to write code ideas on while I'm out and about, so I don't forget them when I get home."
"Nerd," she teases you with a grin, before letting go of you and heading to the front, "Let me grab my order real fast and you can tell me all about it."
You watch Christina go to the front to pick up her drink, and breathe a sigh of relief. That was a little too close for your liking. Deciding to make sure you don't have this problem in the future, you open up the Rulebook and write 'OLD RULE: Everyone other than the current owner of the Rulebook (Nicolas) ignore the Rulebook and the act of writing in it unless the current holder directly draws their attention to it.'
There, that should do it. You look up and see that Christina is still talking to the cashier. Usually this would be a pet peeve of yours, but today you're grateful for the chance to write some more rules without interruption. Thinking about what you want to do next, you realize that while most of the changes you want to make will be involving petite women, which women are defined as 'petite' is subjective enough among people that some odd issues could crop up when the new rules go into effect. You decide that the simplest solution would be to make sure that your standard for 'petite' becomes the universal definition of it, thus eliminating subjectivity altogether.
OLD RULE: If an adult woman is shorter than 5 ft 2 in, has breasts that are B-cup or smaller, and has a Body-Mass Index below 24, she is considered a petite woman.
Like your previous rule, you don't notice anything change, but you are unsure about whether your new rule is working as intended or not. You reason that a simple test is in order to double-check, as well as get used to writing rules just a little bit more before you truly start making major changes. Devising a couple of rules that should do the trick, you quickly jot them down in the Rule book.
NEW RULE: Petite women must wear their hair in pigtails at all times.
OLD RULE: It is incredibly hard for petite women to gain enough muscle or fat to lose their petite figure, and incredibly easy for them to lose enough of both to maintain it.
Yeah, your first rule wasn't anything too fancy, but you wanted something obvious that you could check quickly. Your other rules were there to make sure that petite girls stayed petite. Not really much of a concern now, but depending on what changes you make in the future you might end up thanking yourself for it later.
You finish up writing just as Christina sits down in the seat across from you, cup of caffe mocha in hand, and immediately you can tell your new rules worked. Whereas Christina had gone up to the counter with her glossy black hair hanging freely down her back as is usual for her, now it was done up into two long pigtails on the sides of her head. Looking around the cafe, you notice that while most other people remain unchanged, one blonde waitress and an older brunette woman in otherwise professional attire, both of whom you would also consider petite, were also now sporting similar pigtails.
Christina sighs in contentment as she takes a sip of her mocha, then says, "Sorry I'm late. We were having a sale on capris, so work was busy as hell for me today."
"Yeah, I bet," you reply, glad that she seemed to have completely forgotten about the Rule book, "By the way, I love your hair today. Trying something new?"
To your surprise, Christina frowns in annoyance and says, "Glad to hear you like it, because it's the only style you'll be seeing my hair in from now on."
"What are you talking about?" you ask her, curious about what caused this reaction.
Christina raises a brow and asks, "Did you seriously not hear? Starting today, every petite woman has to wear their hair in pigtails at all times. There's actually a fine I have to pay if I'm caught without them. I mean, can you believe that? It's insane a law like that can even get passed in the first place."
"Yeah, that is crazy," you tell her, absolutely stunned. It seems that the way you worded that rule was a little more forceful than you intended. You just wanted to change Christina's hairstyle as a test, but now petite women were actually required by law to keep their hair in pigtails at all times. You know you should probably be concerned that you were able to just create new laws so easily, but really you found it kind of hot.
"It's like, I have a hard enough time getting people to take me seriously as an adult already," Christina says, taking another drink of her mocha, "Now I'm going to look even more like a little girl. God, I know it's supposed to be bad for me, but right now I'm starting to wish I could convince a doctor to skirt the rules and give me a boob job just so I can let my hair down again."
"I dunno, I think the pigtails look good on you," you tell her truthfully, "Much better than a pair of fake tits ever would."
Christina blushes, a smile returning to her face, "Thanks, Nick. I can always count on you to know just what to say to cheer me up. This new law's stupid, yeah, but far from the worst thing in the world. I'll get used to it eventually."
You smile back at her, then look down at the open Rule book on the table. You were going to erase the pigtail rule once you confirmed it worked, but now you were very much tempted to keep it around. Whether you did or not, you felt like it was time to add another rule regarding petite women. But what, exactly? And did you want to make it an Old Rule that everyone would accept without question, or mix things up with a New Rule and see how the world reacts?
What rules do you make to change the lives of petite women like Christina?
