Meeting the roommate

Donna is just coming back into the room carrying a tray with two thick mugs of steaming tea, a bowl of sugar and a pitcher of milk when a key rattles in the front door and it opens with a thump.

"Hey Lorri," Donna says with a cheerful greeting. "Come on and meet the new Biology teacher. This is Mason Carter. Mason, this is Lorri McKay."

You rise to greet the newcomer, unable to keep the surprise off your face. For at this most white of white privilege institutions, Lorri McKay is black. And not just black but a deep ebony.

She sees your reaction and gives a great earthy guffaw of genuine amusement. "Not what you were expecting, huh?" she says as she comes over, extending a strong hand of greeting. "Pleased to meet you Mason. I teach Physics and Chemistry, or try to anyway, as much as these shallow white girls can absorb."

You take her hand, matching the strength and power of her grip, and she grins at you, sizing you up, giving you the opportunity to do the same. She's a big woman in her late thirties, running somewhat to fat but generally well proportioned, with an impressive bust and a round and prominent rump. She's dressed to show it off, wearing tight scarlet spandex that clings to her body and leaves very little to the imagination.

"Look at this white boy," she laughs. "Don't he look like he's trying to figure out what to say next? You didn't warn him Donna? You a trouble maker, girl!" Donna grins back at her, watching the two of you carefully.

"So how's a person looks like me wind up here teaching these rich white girls? I know you asking that question. You want to hear?" At your nod she takes a seat, and leans back. "Donna, give the man his tea, and if it's no trouble, get me a beer."
