First Lockers

The bell ring signifying the ending of the period and the beginning of lunch. Callum is out the door before I have my books packed up. Unlike most in the school I bring my own lunch so getting a seat is no problem for me.

Going to my locker, putting my books away, grabbing my lunch, making my way to the cafeteria, when I see Callum at his locker looking confused. Walking up to him “Could you use more help?”

“What I could use is a GPS system of the school!” turning to see who’s speaking to him. “Amy right?” Sheepishly continuing “I’m kind of bad with names until I been around the person for a while!”

“Yes, Amy your chemistry lab partner!” Smiling at him “I Don’t have an electronic system but I do have a foolproof system that if you want I’ll do during lunch and give it to you before final period if you like?” Hoping inside that he would. “All I need is your school map and a quarter!”

Pulling out a brown paper bag “Hey that would be great!” Searching for the map then in his pocket for a quarter, Finding both, handing them over to Amy. “Now all I have to do is find the cafeteria!”

“That’s an easy one, just give me a minute at my locker and I lead you there!” Making her way back to her locker before he could reply, spinning the lock opening it taking her pencil case out before closing and locking it tight, “Okay off to the cafeteria!” only to be stopped dead

“Amy?” Sheepishly without looking to her “Would you mind if i sat with you?” going on to justify his asking “I just moves here from the west coast and I know no one, you been the only one to show me any kindness!

She doesn’t respond because her insides just turned into liquid. Not trusting herself she moves to the lockers and leans against them “Sure it’s a date!” realizing what she just said, blushing as Callum stares at her

“Well I wouldn’t consider it a date, it’s lunch time and we both need to eat!” seeing the hurt in her eyes “Maybe we could discuss a date on the walk home from here?”

Standing there then walking away in a daze, in my mind ‘Oh my god did he just say he would consider taking me on a date?’
