Chapter 8

What's next?

Texting with Darien.

He made her wait. He had always made her wait, even when they had been together. He liked having that power over her, since she was too famous and too rich to have any other sort of power over her. He was petty that way, like a child who was being made to eat their vegetables. But he did, eventually, respond.

Sarah was in the car, on the way back to her hotel. Silas was sitting across from her, minding his own business as always. She didn't like that he was so close by while she was occupied with her frustrations about Darien, but that couldn't be helped. He was almost always close by. It was just a fact of her life.

The message popped up on her phone.

"Long time no see, gorgeous," he texted back, as if their last meeting hadn't ended in a screaming match on both sides. "I'd love to meet up. Why don't you swing by my apartment next time you're in town? We can pow wow."

Sarah was already fuming. There was no way that Darien didn't know what she wanted to talk about. She hated that he was avoiding it. She hated him for avoiding it. She wanted to strangle him. But for the moment, she needed him alive. That didn't stop her from wondering whether Silas got paid enough to **** him for her if he really started to piss her off.

"I'll be in town tomorrow," she wrote back. She was supposed to be doing a show in Vegas the day after that, but they could set it all up without her. She needed this story quashed as soon as possible. "7PM. If you're not there I'll burn your place down." It wasn't the worst threat she had made since they had broken up.

"Whatever you want, princess," he texted back. That condescending son of a butch. It would be a miracle if she didn't end up attacking him by the end of their 'meeting.'

She didn't like that he had chosen his own apartment for their confrontation, but she didn't have much choice, either. If she really wanted to stop this story in its tracks, then she would have to play along with his stupid games... to an extent. Sarah Morris was no pushover, and she knew how to handle an ex.
