Chapter 12 by Shibbar Shibbar

What's next?

Fungal Mound

The first thing that came to Nora's mind as she entered the chamber was thus; it was a mistake to come here. The air is more soup than oxygen, and the fog crawls at around waist level. From the fog across the room lies a mound of sickly mushrooms shaped like exhaust pipes and sponges, each and every one of them periodically emitting a puff of spores that rise into the air before quickly settling back down. {if mask on = true}Nora was lucky that she came into this chamber with her gas mask on, otherwise who knows what could have happened!{else}The spores clung to Nora's throat like thick mucus, causing her to cough violently.{endif}

Nora drew closer to the mound. The floor was no longer stone but instead covered in a pillowy carpet of white mycelium. Within the mess of tangled mushrooms lay an innumerable amount of bones, though the majority seemed animal. Still, the inclusion of ANY amount of human bones is enough to spook anyone. Nora picked up and examined one of the bones at her feet. The mycelium coiled around the bone, and when pulled away, revealed thousands of little tiny holes drilled all across the surface, all connected to thin paths running through the bone, giving it the look of black veins. It was clear to her that these holes were caused by this mound, which made nora slowly back off the way she came. She had no intention of joining these scattered skeletons.

Time to leave.
