Walk back to his car

Jack starts walking through the parking lot back to his car, staring down at his phone. He hears a couple arguing in a car he passed by; conflict blasting through the open windows. He didn't stop and listen, he thought it might be rude.

He didn't really know how he felt about arguing in the context of a relationship. He'd never been in one, so what was there to know? It's not that he didn't want to be in one, just that he never had the confidence to make it happen.

He got back to his car and sat down in the drivers seat. He was about to turn the key when he remembered that Inez was probably cleaning the school somewhere. What kind of person would he be if he didn't keep this mutual exchange going.

He never would have had this kind of confidence back in Maine; it must be the desert and the Arizona sun.
