Chapter 5 by shirasaya shirasaya

Whats next on the day's agenda?

Gear Up

You head back up to your room to don your gear for the day. You had recently completed a very profitable quest for someone of your level. The money that you gained from questing, you decided would be budgeted out in order to work towards a more stable and sustainable form of income. What that was, you had no idea.

You don your padded jack and thick pants over your linen shirt and long-johns. These are comfortable and flexible enough to be comfortable, but protective enough to stop arrows at a reasonable distance and absorb the impact **** from any blows that he would receive. It also helped prevent the pinching and chafing that was an inherent nuisance with most armor. Overall, most people underestimated the utility of a good quality padded jack and good pants.

You also don your suit of expertly crafted chainmail, which has been reinforced with scales of steel. This armor served to stop cutting blades, and combined with your padded jack, was able to stop, or at least take the majority of the energy out of any thrusting attacks.

You grab your reinforced leather Bag of Holding (Type 3) that you were extremely fortunate to have found in a cave, attached to an individual who was less fortunate than you, as nothing but a skeleton remained. This bag has been incredibly useful, allowing him to procure and extract items from dungeons, castles, and caves that he otherwise couldn't take with. It gave him a considerable bargaining chip with many of the parties he was in, as he was able to negotiate a fee for carrying all the loot.

You put your Ring of Feather Fall on your left hand, it's saved your bacon several times over the months. Collapsing floors and slippery surfaces would have been painful were it not for this ring.

You grab your steel Wounding bastard sword. You smile fondly as you remember the fat gnome vendor who sold it to you, he was certainly a sight to behold, as he made fun of his own appearance, causing his whole party to laugh and cajole with him. You and your party spent a decent chunk of wealth at that vendor, and you wouldnt hesitate to do it again given the chance.

You then grab your wooden round shield. It is a series of interlocked planks reinforced with hide and resin, and covered in cloth. It's painted a dark green, and coated with another layer of resin, further improving its structural integrity. It has a centered grip that is wrapped in suede leather, which affords you excellent grip. You recently had the round boss replaced with a spiked one. Thanks to your newest addition, the spiked boss wouldn't be in the way, sticking and poking into everything behind you.

Your padded helm follows. The most simple and ubiquitous item of protection that one can have. It protects you from arrows, falling objects, clumsiness, and attacks. It's painted surface also protects you from the sun’s harsh glare. It has adequate facial protection, covering your forehead, jaw and cheeks, but leaves you ample openings around your eyes, mouth and nose. You also have a few small holes cut in the side to allow you to hear better.

You proudly place your newest addition to your gear onto your right ring finger. A Ring of Arming, that you bought at quite a bargain from a retiring adventurer. The grizzled old ranger happily parted with it, as he no longer had any use for it. This ring allowed for far more ease of travel, as your armor and weapons are stored within the ring until you have need for them. It significantly reduces your travel load, as many pounds become mere ounces. This also makes you look far less conspicuous to any onlookers, as all you wear is the ring. The sheer convenience that it provides is worth more than its weight in gold.

You are now once again clad in simple comfortable breeches, a linen shirt, your socks, boots and pack. You look the part of a simple traveler.

Now that you've prepared for the day, what do you do with it?
