Captain Blood's group

The crew splits into two groups, a slightly smaller one with Caption Blood and a slightly larger one with the First Mate. You and One-Eyed Will make sure to get into the Captain's group.

You quietly make your way down the docks and away from the city (well, as close to a city as you could find on the island of Tortuga). Very soon you are at the edge of the jungle that covers the majority of the island. As a few men go ahead to clear brush and foliage from your path, you let yourself drift to the group's rear, where Captain Blood is.

"So er, Cap'n Blood..."

She looks at you expectantly.

"Well...if there's going to be a spot open for a new First Mate, you're going to be appointing a Captain for the new ship too, right?" She nods. You continue, "I've gotta ask...you can't be thinking of making Caesar a Captain, can you?"

"And why not?" she asks.

"Well, to put it plainly...he's a dumb brute," you venture.

"You don't need be the smartest person to be useful to me...and a little brutishness helps keep the crew in line" Captain Blood replies. "Perhaps you didn't consider that I made him First Mate for a reason," she adds with a raised eyebrow.

"Sure," you point, "having a brute as your First Mate isn't a bad idea. The problem with making a dumb brute a Captain is that they're just dumb enough to start thinking that means they're at your level." Captain Blood brushes a strand of red hair away from her face as she narrows her eyes slightly.

"Are you saying Caesar is something I should be worried about?" she asks, with some suspicion in her voice.

"I'm saying that my advice—if you'd be willing to take it Cap'n—would be to keep that man away from a true command position. I'm not saying he's planning to cross you...but he's not smart enough to know just how bad of an idea that would be."

She nods slightly and dismisses you. You aren't sure if the expression on her face was thoughtful or annoyed.

A few minutes later, Captain Blood calls out for everyone to halt. By the way she is looking at the map scribbled on the piece of parchment she is holding, it seems you have arrived.
