Chapter 29 by Shibbar Shibbar

What's next?

So many bones

Nora trekked onwards, the fragile, eggshell like bones crumbling under her step. Soon, she was alone in the darkness, just her and bones, black emptiness stretching seemingly into eternity in all directions. She gulped. Why exactly were there so many bones, she started asking herself, her flashlight wagging from side to side in front of her, and why are they all so fragile?

Suddenly something under her gave way. She screamed, her leg sinking into the bones up to her thigh. There was a deep rattle far away, and slowly, with a insidiously low rumble, the bones started to tilt downwards. Nora scrambled to her feet, but she fell again as the incline increased more and more. She clawed desperately to climb away, but she couldn't, sunken half deep in bones with more falling on top by the second until she was completely covered. She let go of her flashlight during the panic much to her dismay, and the light quickly left her, leaving her in crushing solitude. Her heart was practically beating itself out from her chest, and her breathing was frantic. She floated like this for quite some time, the long minutes stretching into long hours.

Then when she was about to completely give up, she felt something wet with the tip of her feet. Something caustic apparently, as she yelled out in pain, her toes and feet in agony. She jerked them upwards, but she couldn't escape it for long, and slowly over time she sunk deeper, until whatever it was rose and rose until it reached her waist. It was agony, but thankfully Nora passed out before she experienced too much of it. It was merciful compared to the long drawn out **** from thirst she would've faced.
