Chapter 6 by SergeantC

Does Savannah ring the bell, or go to the back door and break in?

Not wanting to be seen, Savannah breaks in

"I don't want to be seen like this," Savannah thought. She'd heard stories of girls losing their clothes and having to be let in by the house mother, but she didn't want to be one of them. She wanted to get to her room without being seen. Then she could find a robe and put it on before she went looking for Betty.

Savannah took a look around to reassure herself that she was alone, and then she crept along the side of the house. Most of the windows on the ground floor were covered with curtains, so she wasn't worried about someone looking out and seeing her. Nonetheless, she went slowly, hiding against the side of the house, using the shrubs that grew next to the walls to conceal herself whenever possible, and stopping regularly to make certain no one was watching her.

Because of her slow, cautious pace, it took Savannah a fifteen minutes to reach the other door, even though the house was nowhere near that large. This door was visible from the street, but she was obscured by shadows and the lack of lights. There were supposed to be lights, Savannah knew, but they were burned out, and no one had ever replaced them.

A quick look up and down the street told Savannah it was empty. She listened for the sound of cars, but heard nothing. Reassured that no one would see her, Savannah turned to face the door. Next to it was a glass panel that was hinged at the top, but swung out on the bottom. She lifted it up, then stuck her right hand inside. She felt around until her fingers located the door lock. She lifted it up, the turned the knob with her free hand. Savannah hadn't realized she'd been holding her breath, but she let it out when the door opened to her push. She pulled her arm out of the hole, pushed the panel closed, and then entered the the house.

Once inside, Savannah shut and locked the door, then looked around. No one was awake, which didn't surprise her. The doors on this floor were all closed. She walked slowly down the corridor, trying doors as she went, hoping one would be open and she could find something behind it that she could cover herself with. She was not pleased to discover that door after door was locked.

Part of the way down the hallway, to her left, was a kitchen. Next to that was a small bathroom with a single shower. Hopefully, Savannah checked each of these, and came away disappointed. Neither kitchen nor bathroom had anything such as towels or an apron she could use.

At the far end of the hallway was a staircase that lead up to the second floor. Savannah took it.

Her room was about halfway down, on the right side.

She hurried, not wanting to be seen this close to safety. She tried the knob. It turned, but her door didn't open.

"Crap," she said under her breath. She'd locked it when she went out.

Looking to the right, Savannah saw that the door next to hers appeared to be ajar. It belonged to a girl named Brooke. She wouldn't have a key to Savannah's room, of course, but was always willing to lend the other girls on the floor her clothes. More importantly, she was about the same size as Savannah, and she wouldn't ask any embarrassing questions. And Savannah still wanted to have something on when she spoke to Betty.

Savannah pushed her door open and crept in. The room was dark. The only light, in fact, came from out in the hallway. Brooke was in bed, apparently asleep.

Savannah crept up to the side of her bed, then leaned down. "Brooke," she said, shaking the other girl by the shoulder, "I need to borrow a robe."

Brooke didn't respond.

"Brooke," she said, a little more forcefully. She pulled the covers back, and gasped in fear and shock at what she saw.

Brooke's body lay in the bed, but her head didn't. Now that her eyes were used to the darkness, Savannah could see that Brooke's head sat on her desk, on top of her open laptop.

She shrieked, and turned toward the door. She stopped.

Standing in the doorway, blocking her way, was a tall figure dressed in the bear costume of the Stabber U. mascot, the Stabbear. It held a blood-stained machete in its right hand.

It raised the machete and advanced on the naked blonde.

What does Savannah do?
