“We do know who you are,” the woman replied, her scar turning the smile into a oddly unsettling grimace.

“And you know who I work for,” Maria went on. Suddenly feeling like there might be a crack she could work at. “My bosses don’t like it when people break their toys.”

That drew a chuckle from the woman, who had begun to pace back and forth across the room.

“What makes you think we are going to break you?” She asked.

Maria gestured towards the far wall, from beyond which the sound of sobbing had been coming from at a steady rate since she awoke. “I’ve seen what happens to the ones you take.”

“That would be the girl Mindy, correct?” The woman replied. “It was a shame about her. If it means anything we did try to do this all voluntarily but it, well, it just didn’t take. So now the hand guides us.”

“And the ‘hand’ guided you to kill her?” Maria asked, it was better to not mention the memories right now.

“We didn’t kill her,” the woman shot back with surprising ****.

“Right, so she just nearly cut her own head off in a alleyway?” Maria was surprised by the reaction of the woman. She had expected a glib brush off of the **** as ‘necessary’ which was the usual response of these cult types. She had not expected the forceful denial.

The One Eyed Woman simply watched Maria for a long moment before she spoke again. Her voice perfectly controlled again.

“Someone will come soon,” she stated, her voice dispassionate now. “To inseminate you. If you resist then they will be **** to hurt you.”

Maria watched her as she moved over to the door, turning to look Maria in the eye one last time.

“You do not need to have working arms or legs to serve our purposes.”

She left then, the door slamming behind her. Her parting words had not so much been a threat as a statement of fact, Maria had no doubt they would fold her up in a box if they thought it would be easier.

Now all she could do was wait and wonder. Wonder about the reaction of the woman to the fate of Mindy. Surely she must be one of the ones in charge of this place, Maria was now more certain than ever that that body was a shell for something else.

Maybe there was a angle she could work there?
