Chapter 16 by Funatic Funatic

So, what are they fighting?

Ghosts, as promised.

John put his pants back on as Rave made her point very clear. “Ghosts, I tell you summon ghosts!” he just nodded, he had gotten a blowjob out of it so he had no room to complain. “You still don’t deal Holy Damage though, right?” He asked as he destroyed the current Instant Dungeon. Cracks went through the world and it shattered. “No. If you want to categorize my light control it would be closer to fire than anything sacred. Ghosts are pretty wimpy things though, you will see why in a second.”

That was all the explanation he got. With a shrug he made the new Instant Dungeon, his mind focused on the Ghosts he wanted it to fill. Just like last time all the wind suddenly ceased and it got unnaturally quiet as they entered a space without birds, deer or other citizens of the forest. Unlike last time however a gentle fog settled between the woods. It was nothing that greatly impacted vision but it did give the still forest the feeling of a horror movie.

Within the fog small pockets started to move in turmoil, focusing on one spot until the rough outline of a person’s face was born. The face moved and pulled after it a two armed, blue translucent body that looked like it was made from teared cloth as it moved through the air. John used Observe.

Lower Ghost, Level 11

The personification of lesser regrets, clawing to this world. These regrets range from a letter never sent to a person never punched.

John prayed for a day that Observe would reveal a bit more about monsters, he really needed to level that thing up.

More faces peeled from the mist, mouths opened in screams that he couldn’t hear as they slowly surrounded them. From what he could see their levels ranged from 11-14, far above him and almost at Rave’s level. The techno lover however just smiled and pulled a thin MP3-Player from her pants. “What are you doing?” John wondered. “Well, this well be boring without some kind of rhythm. Unless you are a beatboxer I need this.” She explained as she put one of the plugs into her right ear. She left the other one dangling in front of her chest as she picked a song.

The Ghosts came closer. Like a pack of wolves that circled their prey their rounds became tighter and tighter. John was sure he could extent a hand and touch one of the Ghosts but choose not to for his own safety. “That one is good!” Rave finally decided. A faint beat echoed from the dangling ear plug over to John, not loud enough to make out the song, if he even knew it, but at least to hear the rhythm.

Rave rolled her shoulder and took a deep breath. “So, let me show you something fun.” She said and suddenly a blue aura enveloped her. “Ehm, what is that?” John asked. He didn’t know when his life suddenly became Dragonball or some other weird anime with that kind of aura but then again it wasn’t the weirdest thing to happen in the past two days. “For simplicities sake let’s just call it Aura.” Rave said. “You remember how Innate Fighters have a head start? Well, besides my control over light I spent my days training martial arts. In game terms I guess you would call me a battle mage.” She grinned at John. “Coolio, ain’t it, Gamer?” “Would you please just choose one pattern of speaking already.” John complained, her constant change between understandable English and some weird party language was getting to his head.

“Nah.” Rave said. The Ghosts attacked. John threw himself to the ground, trying to get out of harms way. It was a good decision in two ways. One, a ghostly claw cut through the air above him and Two as the Ghost now hovered over him John wasn’t in the way of the roundhouse kick that went straight through the ghost, ripping a huge chunk of its mist body away only for the rest to soon dissipate into thin air.

55 EXP

That was pretty good actually. Only about 8 more of them and he would reach another level. “Only ten? Dude, this is bonkers bad.” Rave complained. “Well, little things add up, Jane.” John said, accidently using her real name. She didn’t seem to mind in this particular instance though. “Guess you are right.” She said, glee in her voice as she pointed at another ghost with her index finger. A beam of concentrated light pushed out of it and through the ghost. It threw it’s arm into the air like it was screaming in great pain. Rave kept at it and soon that Ghost as well dissipated.

“See, I told ya these would be easy.” Rave exclaimed and stemmed her hands into her hips. “But why though, they are close to your level.” John wondered. “Really? You should call your system designer, Ghosts are just some lingering regrets the only annoying things is that you ordinarily can’t touch them.” Rave pointed at the blue Aura that was around her. “This takes care of that though.” She pointed at the next Ghost that was trying to attack them and shot it with another beam of light. “Not that I need it though, just wanted to show off, you know?” “Please decide between ya and you already” John complained again. “Aw, ya are sounding like Baldy!” Rave said, “How cute of you.”

John sighed and stood up again. It was pretty obvious that Rave had the whole thing under control and the Experience Points kept flowing his way. Alone he would have needed weeks to reach this state of efficiency in farming.

More flashes of lights, more kicks and punches, everything to the beat that so faintly reached John’s ear. He finally had enough and decided to check out which song that was. How? Well, he needed to level Possession anyway.

He used Possession on the dangling earplug and the result was him dropping right into, well, drop of the song. With the song at his height Rave suddenly became extremely motivated and eradicated what she could make out to be Ghosts. By the time the song was over the two of them stood in a light spot within the fog. Surely more ghosts were waiting in the woods but John was too busy pumping his fist at the window that had just opened.

Level Up!

Aw yeah, another five points for him. As he closed the window his eye fell on something on the floor. “Oh hey it dropped something!” He said as if that was the most normal thing in the world. Rave turned around and went. “Wait, WHAT?!”

Clearly it was not normal.

What did it drop?
