Chapter 57 by Artican Artican

Will the Ishtar help the stranded alien?

Contacting the Ishtar.

Jaquon's communication device was rudimentary at best, but I was able to amplify the signal and hone it in on Starfleet frequencies in order to contact the Ishtar. The communicator was audio only, but since my host did not make a gesture to offer me something to wear, I was actually glad I didn't have to show myself to the bridge crew. I stood by the audio transceiver and sent out a hail. "This is Ensign Trask calling Ishtar. Ishtar, please come in..."

"Ishtar here," Ensigne Amasova responded to great relief from my part. "Where are you, Trask? Sensors aren't picking up your signal down there..."

"It's a long story... I am sending you coordinates now. I found a damaged ship here with it's captain looking to get some help with repairs." I replied.

"That area is like a dead spot on our sensors, Linda. We won't be able to transport you up until you clear the area." Amasova said.

"That would explain why I got lost down here in the first place..." Jaquon noted. "Ishtar, my ship is too large to move out, but I can give you a list of required repairs that I would need in order to leave orbit on my own power."

There was a brief silence as Ami consulted with the bridge officers. She responded soon after.

"We can have a shuttle come down with some engineers to help you out, captain..."

"Call me Jaquon... and I thank you for your rescue."

Jaquon went into detail of what needed fixing and the crew on Ishtar surmised that it would be a couple of hours before they could gather the materials and personnel needed to fix the damage. This left me and Jaquon to settle in and get to know one another. He was amiable enough to invite me to share a drink with him while we waited. He took me to a lounge area in his ship which looked spacious with fur carpet, a curved glass aquarium that circled half the room. I walked up to the aquarium and recognized some of the wildlife kept inside.

"These ones are indigenous..." I pointed out.

"Yes, I've been collecting during my time here. I call this one a dagger fish because it hunts by ramming its small frame through its prey like a flying dagger," Jaquon said proudly, "I've personally seen it take down prey ten times its size. Of course, it's no match for that creature in the coral..."

I peered deeper into the tank to see a garden of colorful undersea plant life, but couldn't make out anything living among them. "I don't see anything..." I admitted.

"It is a master of disguise. Most cunning. When it hunts, it springs out like a trap... observe..."

As he invited me to watch, the dagger fish we had been talking about wandered aimlessly into the hidden creature's domain. Suddenly the fish was snatched and pulled into the coral. There was a shimmer of lights the formed a body that I instantly recognized as a Hrimgnnr!

Will Linda do something about this?
