"Simple enough," I heard Amanda mutter, before walking ahead of me and Becky, almost immediately starting to set up at our lab table. Amanda was quick behind her, tossing her backpack underneath. Which left me as the only one to remember that we were supposed to pick up safety aprons first.

The aprons were hardly flattering, black slabs of thick fabric that were tied around you by some dingy, worn pieces of twine. Still, considering my situation, I was happy enough to have some extra cover up front. I grabbed one for each of us, along with three sets of safety goggles, and joined up with my team. The experiment seemed easy enough; just mix the one liquid with the other so that they fizzed up. Do that a few times, record some junk data, done.

It would have been that easy, too. But then one of the three of us did something... Pretty stupid.
