Head out

A few days later at the border of the dark empire

You have just finished your last overhead flight of the town, landing at the clearing you and your troops have made your base of operations. You have stayed at this clearing for the past two days, focusing on recon before you ventured to the town, making sure that there were no unpleasant surprises when you decide to take the town. You and the wind elemental took turns scouting from the air as Willow used her tendrils to scout from just below the surface, it was surprising how far she could reach with them if she planted her feet into the ground.

The town itself was about a few miles inland at the 'light' side of the barrier, half surrounded by forest on the north and east side, a steep hill at the west and a stone barricade at the south facing the border. The town wasn't considered big, about forty to fifty houses mainly populated by gnomes and humans. At the moment there were also a small squad of human knights present probably there to help guard the barricade. The defenses weren't that good, considering it was just a minor town far from the main roads into the dark empire. The other few oddities you found were a well at the center of the town which your wind elemental found connected to an underground net of water basins. You had set the elementals to work on finding one of them the moment it was discovered, the earth elementals doing the digging while the water elementals using their senses as beings of pure water to locate them.

About a day ago they had unearthed one of the closer basins making the final piece of your plan click in place. You gather your troops, all seven of them. All of them staring at you as you clear your throat. "I finished our final recon of the town. In about an hour we strike!" You bark at them in your native draconic language. Willow and Luci nod, the elementals salute you. Then you dismiss them and ready your gear. When everything is ready you give the signal to head out, the strategy being decided upon earlier by you.
