Chapter 12
by Shandy
See the visitor? Or not?
Meeting Mr. Dunnigan
"I better see him," Hunter told Toni. "Show him in, then buzz me after five minutes so I can make an excuse to shorten the meeting."
"Should I offer him coffee?" Toni asked.
"No. He won't be staying that long." She nodded and left, Hunter admiring her long legs and fine rump as she departed.
She was back quickly, escorting a dignified older man, a briefcase held under one arm. He stepped forward with an open smile, holding one hand out as Hunter stood to greet him.
"Henry Dunnigan. Thank you for taking the time to see me sir. I assure you that you will find the time well spent." Hunter gestured him to a chair, taking in the man's conservative suit and highly polished shoes. Dunnigan looked back at him from a face marked with the lines of age, yet full of vigour. His hair was silver, and a tidy goatee adorned his face.
"Your note has me puzzled Mr. Dunnigan," Hunter said as he sat back in his chair. "You refer to my injury. Are you a physician?"
"Oh my no!" Dunnigan laughed. "Nor am I an attorney, come to solicit some tawdry personal injury suit. Such as it matters, I am a professor of history. But my occupation is neither here nor there. I realise you are a very busy man Mr. Collins, but it was essential that I renewed our acquaintance as quickly as possible."
"Forgive me Mr. Dunnigan, but I don't recall having met you before. Are you sure there isn't some mistake?
"No sir, no mistake. And we have met Mr. Collins. We met this morning," Dunnigan smiled, showing a fine set of white teeth. "You see, it was I who bit you."
