Go to Court, or does something else happen?

Your first day in court

Chapter 5 by Ultrasound7 Ultrasound7

You made it to the throne room without incident, where the whole court was waiting for you. Just as Uba said, many of them seemed quite anxious at waiting for your and more so since you arrived while the rest you recognize are trying to hide their weakness.

As you stepped to your throne you surveyed the room fit for a king and big enough to hold a Banquet. there they were, Amorabah's royal court, your court.

Rajah, the Captain of the Guard, head of the kingdoms army and police, your bodyguard and sheriff. The Tiger Beastman stood briskly and proudly by the left of your throne as was his duty in the garb and armed armament of the highest ranking soldier in a vassal kingdom of the empire, his sword by his side and at the ready even in such supposed peaceful environment.

"All hail, Ali Desarht Al-Nanoon, Sultan of Amorabah, Crown Prince of the Empire, Son of the Desert. May your courage and strength, and wisdom guide us" he said in a rough, passionate, yet respected, if not reverent voice.

You're actually a bit surprised to see a beastman such as he to be in such a high position. It gives you much inside of the character of your predecessor as it does your Captain's skills and prowess. Still a welcome sight all the same, you just hope that he and Jafir don't go step on each others toes trying to protect you.

On the right of your throne as per protocol was Vienna, your new royal Vizier. She is a beautiful local woman, dressed tight enough to show her curves, but conservative and modest enough to not be flaunting them. Her stance and expression conveys nothing but professionalism.

You find yourself liking her too, easy on the eyes, and not obviously trying to seduction you, but looking to do her duty to the best of her abilities. Besides, Seducing her is way more fun if she's not expecting or engaging it. You pause at the realizing of your friends corruption.

Right next to the royal Vizier was the court mage Harud. A elder and ambitious man if you ever saw one. Dressed rather modestly, more of a humble hermit then a regal sorcerer. You suspect it is supposed to inspire humility along with nobility, but you can see in his eyes it to be an act, or at least you suspect it is. You make a personal note to keep an eye on him.

Further down next to Harud, stood Duke Fashuum, the head representative of all the nobility in the Kingdom and the surrounding vassals. As is tradition inset of having a room full of people with same self interests as each other and themselves as they typically are, all the nobles among the vicinity and boundaries of the kingdoms domain will select one among them to be the champion and voice for all the respective nobility, and all the head representatives in the empire would thus choose who among themselves will serve as Grand representative of nobility to the Grand sultan himself. Traditionally this process is decided by majority vote among the head of noble households, although if someone is unsatisfied or disregarded of the end result may contest their worth through trial by contest, usually noble dueling.

Fahsuum, you can tell from his ornate leather jacket and silk undershirt that he came dressed to impress. With his eyepatch over his right eye which your sure was the result of a deadly noble duel, tells you not only is he powerful and charismatic, but not afraid to get his hands dirty. This makes him a bit of a double-edged sword. He can easily be hazardous as well as helpful and you're not quite sure if he is on anyone's side but his own. In other words another dangerous man to keep your guard up for.

While that completed your right side, In your court you turn towards your left and see those standing further away yet adjacent to your Captain. Right next to the beastman is an unusual man dressed in a miners cloths with goggles and other lenses over his glasses with a foldable table in front of him with books pen and paper everywhere and on his person. The man smelled of smoke and chemicals, which of course fitted of the protocol means that this man was to be your head inventor and lord of industry here in Amorabah. You know Mekael well, being friends with your father in childhood as well as the man famous for invention the Camel Cloak, which founded the alliance breed the empire and the nomadic Centaur tribes and the establishment of the veteran Humpback Cavalry. As a reward for his service (not to mention netting him another concubine) your father gave him his position where he continues to run the factories and workshops in pursuit of making goods and devices to the kingdoms its neighbors and travelers and the empire himself. You know you can count on him to be a friend.

Next to Mekeal, completing your left side and the circle of the royal court Abis Nal Head Merchant and representative of the civilian population. One of the most notable differences of the Al-Anashab then any other kingdom, allowing the peasants to have a voice in the kings court. The inclusion of a civilian in could was meant to make a royal court honest, if the nobility has issue with the peasantry they take to the Sultan, the peasantry can give their own account without fear of slander or disregard and thus the sultan would demonstrate his abilities as a leader prove unity however tested stays ever stronger which was one of the founding principals of the empire in its construction. Now Abis Nal was a short man only slightly taller than a dwarf by a few inches with rather typical clothes of peasantry, his ornate rings and earrings means he has money to spend and the way he looks at Lord Fashuum with such envy and contempt gives you an idea of how he feels over his position, which of course was the unintended side-effect of this arrangement, merchants and peasants serve as representatives see their station as a means of gaining nobility and abusing their pose and authority against the court and the kingdom. Still he is integral to the political structure, as head of Merchant Guild and elected champion of the people, he is responsible the civilian work force and trade business works in concert to the rest of the vassals of the kingdom and its constituents.

In other words, Abis Nal works in coordination with the merchants to insure trade and commerce, and the labor crews who man the mines, harvest food and/or deliver it, operate the machines in the factories which Mekael is in charge of and responsible for keeping it safe, operational and producing while Rajah keeps everyone in line. Furthermore if any of the peasantry have grievances with nobility, Abis Nal would serve as their mediator as Fashuum is to the nobility to keep the issues compact and less messy handle while Harud and Vienna provide their expertise in politics and magic. Either way you need to keep eye on the merchant.

Your friends soon join you with Iaga sitting in your right arm of your throne keeping a close eye of everyone, though she seems to have most of her concentration on Vienna, not really surprising. Uba stands respectively next to Abis Nal, while Ginni poofed onto your lap in her humanoid Djinn form. Jafir could not be seen, but you knew he was there which was actually quite comforting.

You take a breath as you address the people in the room. "Thank you all for receiving me, in this new dawn of change, I will be looking to all of your strength, courage, and wisdom to as great Sultan as I am destined to be" you say with charm and confidence. "Now without further ado, let today's royal court commence. Now what items of Interest must be addressed today?"
