"I can't believe it, sorry man," Axe consoled him.
I'm not completely innocent in this, Alex thought.
Just then, there was a knock on the bedroom door, Axe opened it and Gaby came in, then stopped when Alex's red eyes met hers.
"I'm gonna kick her ass."
Alex stared at her for a moment, then lightly laughed.
"Thanks, Gabs," he replied. "Axe, I have a big favor to ask of you."
"Whatever you need bud."
"Don't abandon her. She won't want anything to do with me or Gaby. But if she loses all of us, she'll turn to..."
"Erik," Axe said, saying what Alex couldn't.
"Be her friend, her ear, whatever she needs. Make sure she doesn't do something she'll regret later. Also, give me the afternoon to clear my head, then I'll help you with that other thing."
"Okay," Axe said then turned to leave.
Gaby bumped Alex's shoulder with hers.
"Let's take a walk," he said.
Makayla couldn't believe she had done it. She almost ran after him and apologized. Truth was, she was far angrier at herself than she was at him.
"Fuck you and fuck her, especially fuck her!" Gaby screamed at him.
Alex was shocked at how angry her response was.
"I'm just trying to keep it peaceful, until we can work things out."
"Alex, you are one of the smartest people I know, but you can be dumb as a rock at times," she replied poking him in the forehead. "If we suddenly start ignoring each other it will look like we are guilty."
"I guess you are right."
She pulled Alex into a hug.
"Damn't Alex, after all we've been through, you wanted to push me away because that insane..." she paused to avoid calling her a name, "can't control her jealousy. That's not fair to me or you."
"You're right. You're right. But maybe just for lunch we sit at different tables, let things chill a little."
"Fine." She started walking away toward her cabin, then turned back. "And if you decide you need a 'I just got dumped fuck...'" she said holding her hand up to her ear and mouthing "call me."
Alex just shook his head as she walked away.
