Brian and Alex Talk

As Gaby and Alex exited the cabin, Brian approached them. Before he could say anything, Bianca blew past them not even acknowledging them and zipped into the cabin.. They all were silent for a moment before Brian spoke up.

"Hey, Gaby, inside the cabin by the kitchen is a laminated map. Could you grab a dry erase marker and map out the trail you plan to follow, you know, just in case," he asked.

"Sure, no prob," she replied and went back into the cabin.

"Alex, can we talk?" he stated more than asking.

"Sure, I uh... need to get some things from my room, can we walk that way?"

They slowly started walking to the other cabin.

"You know, I always appreciated that you never held it against me, what happened with Kat I mean. I always respected that."

"You know, it sucked then, but she made her choice. You got the girl," he replied, then smiled, "Then I got the girl," he added referring to Makayla.

I know, but you had every right to be a jerk to me, and you took the high road. Which is why it's so important that I give you a heads up."

Alex looked at him confused.

"There's a fox sniffing around the henhouse."

Alex looked at him, started to speak, then stopped and looked around.

"Erik?"

"Yeah. Now look, he's only been sniffing, nothing has happened. She's a smart girl and you are so disgustingly cute together, so I don't think she'd do anything. But I thought you should know."

"But, why?" Alex asked.

"I think he's jealous of you and Sayen."

"Sayen? But we are just..."

"I know," Brian interrupted, "It doesn't have to make sense."

"That's it I'm..." he angrily stated as he turned and started heading back to the other cabin, before Brian stepped in his way.

"Oh no, no way," Brian said, blocking him.

"You know I can hold my own."

"Yes I do, I was there that night too, and that drunk punk was just lucky you took him down before I did."

"Yeah, but the girl was still more impressed with you," Alex laughed. "See, I can laugh about all that now, but this. This isn't..." he trailed off.

"Look, if you go in there and start something you'll be giving him exactly what he wants. He wants to piss you off. And on top of that they'll send you home and you'll look bad in front of Makayla." Brian looked him straight in the eyes. "What you do, is you go on this hike, cool down, then come back and show your girl why she has no reason to be thinking about anyone else. Okay?"

"Okay. And if you..."

"Yes, if I see him making any kind of move, I'll interfere," Brian replied.

"Thanks."

Alex ran up to his room, grabbed his backpack and a few supplies. As he came back down he saw Makayla and Dr. Pittman busy chatting and going over her papers in his room as the door had been left open. He wanted to say goodbye, but decided it best not to interrupt. He looked at her face. Only a couple more hours, he thought. Then headed out to meet Gaby.
