Talk to the apparition

Jake looked nervously at the apparition.

"Um...", he stuttered. "What are you?"

The apparition seemed to stare at Jake condescendingly, although Jake couldn't see its eyes.

"I am a jinn", the jinn finally answered.

"As in a genie?" Jake said. "Aren't you meant to blue and jolly? And where is your lamp?"

There was a loud hissing sound. For a moment, Jake was confused, then realised that the jinn was laughing.

"Only slow-witted jinn get trapped in an object", it said contemptuously. "And I would never be blue", the jinn continued, spitting out the last word. "If I were to show you my true form, you would probably die from fear."

"Ok", Jake said. "So why are you here?"

"I am here to obey your orders", the jinn said simply, though Jake thought that it sounded bitter.

"Will you do anything I say?" Jake wondered.

"Within reason", the jinn replied.
