A mighty looking human warrior

You stalk through the long dungeon corridors, taking stock. You've done a lot of work on your goblin body, but a new body always brings new opportunities, the ability to learn, to explore more biology and experiences, and you haven't yet had much chance to invade one of the 'fair' races - to learn about their bodies, to explore their minds. This will be a treat. Additionally, for infiltrating the lands of your enemies, one of the prisoner's bodies will be far superior to a member of the Dark Lord's forces.

What you want most is to gain control of a mage's mind. To discover the secrets of magic, the power of a wizard's body. You are sure that if you are able to even transfer a fraction of that kind of power to another host again and again you would be well served by the experience.

Unfortunately, from your experience in the minds and bodies of the Dark Lord's underlings, you won't find any mages of note down here. Wielders of magic make poor prisoners, liable to kill guards and cause wasteful uprisings. Magic wielders are almost always killed on sight, or at best tortured for information quickly and under close supervision, then executed before they can cause problems. You will have to experiment with magic elsewhere.

In the lands of light, where you will be free to hunt. Your host practically drools with your anticipation.

You continue searching the cells, deciding. Your mind drifts back, time after time, to a male human with defiant, unbroken eyes. He must be a relatively recent prisoner because his body is still strong, corded muscle. Sinew like iron stands out from his body. You make your way to his cell, standing outside the bars. He is missing a finger from recent torture, and has some burns and painful cuts, but you see nothing that will seriously hinder you. His tan skin is slightly wrinkled, and a streak of gray stands out from matted brown hair; but he is as vital-looking as any you had seen so far. You decide that he will do.

"More torture, goblin?" The human spits in your direction, straining against the iron chains holding him to the wall, rattling them threateningly, "Run away before I take your pincers from you and use them to rip out your eyes."

You stride forward confidently, and unlock the human. Inhabiting a host that is locked up would not be a good start to your new freedom. He makes a move, of course - but reinforced as you'd made your goblin host and uncaring about any damage it might sustain there is little even the brutish, trained warrior can do to you that you care about. You seize the human's mouth, forcing it open as he tries to grapple you. Detaching yourself, a tube formed in the goblin's throat - a device you use to shoot into the human; where you quickly and expertly gain control.

The first moment is disorienting. You 'awaken' on the floor.

You flex your new muscles. Your body feels hungry, and in pain, but those things didn't bother you. You settle in, taking it slow, and become accustomed to your new form. Gently, you scan the human's mind. Lothar's mind. His history, his family, his greatest fears and hopes, his childhood, his training and battles, his rage, and now his impotence in his last moments. You smile with his lips, and decide finding food for yourself and your host will be your next priority. Your old goblin body is on the floor, quickly dying without you there to animate it, and you decide that will do, for yourself, for the moment, until you can attend Lothar's body. Your body. You crouch over the goblin you exited, sending out a feeding tube and chew and slurp at skin and muscle, cannibalizing also the filaments and tentacles you had left behind in it.

With that sustenance, you grow fast inside Lothar.
