Chapter 22
by Urhr93
Is she?
Yes, but not his way
The disgust for the old man wasn't well hidden by Lisa, but while it wasn't in the way he hinted, she indeed was here to work “Yes, i'm here to work, and no, i'm not here to accept your previous offer”
Usher most likely noticed her disgust, but didn't seem to mind it, nor he paid attention to her refusal. Instead he exclaimed an “Oh!”, lightly banging his right fist into his left palm, and acting as if he just remembered something he continued “Now that I think about it, they were saying the new girl wanted a job!”
“You made trouble and now Old Bob will kick you out of town if you don't get a job, that should be it right?” he added with a grin, much to Lisa's surprise.
“How do you...” she didn't even get to finish that Usher interrupted “Same old story, not the first time that old man pulls this stunt on the passing troublemaker. Everybody here knows about it so no chance for you to find work anywhere other than as his deputy... no, though in your case the Red Valley is also an option”
Listening to his words, Lisa felt her hopes crumbling. From the very beginning, there was really no other choice aside from deputy or whore.
Just when she was about to turn around however, Usher stopped her “Wait! Just because everyone else won't hire you, it doesn't mean I won't”
His words were like a white strand of hope in a black sea of disappointment, but then she remembered who he was and immediately stated in an icy cold tone “I will not sell myself to you”, but he didn't mind in the slightest and continued with his sly smile “Now, now, li'l lady, when I talk about work i'm talking about the honest type of work”
Lisa didn't believe this dirty old man not even a tiny bit, but since she came here to get a job and he was offering her one that didn't involve wetting his biscuit into her honey pot, at least not for now, she stopped to hear him out.
“It's been a few years since my old lady departed ahead of time, leaving me alone to fend for myself” he beings, little grief appearing on his face for his dead wife “And i've been thinking about hiring an hand to help around a little with the house and the shop”
Despite everything Lisa felt a bit of pity for this old man, and maybe due to it his words seemed more and more reasonable. Maybe it wouldn't be too bad to work for him?
Just as she thought that he got up, walking around the counter and approaching the door “I was about to close anyway, so if you want the job let's go in the kitchen to talk about it, otherwise just get out”
Does she remains?
