Chapter 10 by Funatic Funatic

What does Nize do on the first day?

Tracking down Rukia.

Now before I would start testing out my powers I should actually find the target. I flipped open the mobile phone Shinigamis had been equipped recently. Pretty useful thing really, it eliminated the need to take mission papers everywhere, it also doubled as a Hollow radar.

I entered my passcode and was quickly connected to the mission network. I was already aware of all my mission details but I needed a photo of Rukia if I actually wanted to track her. It took a little bit of fidgeting around but eventually I managed to get a photo on screen.

What I looked at was a petit girl with dark-violet eyes and a very interesting choice of hairstyle. I mean, I understand having shoulder long hair and all that but why position that strand of hair between your eyes?

Oh well, as someone who wore his hair at like 2 centimetres length I was no one to judge.

So now that I knew what my target looked like I started moving and searching for any traces of spiritual pressure. I had to move slowly, disguising my presence as I went. If Rukia found out that she was observed there wasn’t much point to the deed in the first place.

Over the course of my patrol I found several sources of spiritual energy. Now that was disturbing, especially because one of these was stronger than me. So this was either Rukia or somebody else extremely powerful.

I stopped in a dark alleyway and went over my options. The powerful energy was surrounded by three other smaller energies while the rest were scattered through the city. It seemed my best bet was sneaking towards these presences.

Turned out the place I found the powerholders currently residing at was a normal Japanese high school. I never understood the modern-Japanese addiction to making all schools look like the same block, schools were meant to represent the best of society, to teach kids to follow into a proud countries footsteps.

But different places had different cultures, so I just accepted it. After making sure one more time that my presence was concealed I stepped into the school grounds. I kept myself in the shadows, you never know who might be watching after all. From the corner of my eyes I could see the clock. 3 hours had passed since I entered this world.

Entering the building successfully I made haste towards the classroom where I felt the first powerholder. Which coincidently was the one every one of these was located.

Weird coincidence. Too weird actually. I was on high alert for traps or anything of the sort but if there were any they had been too well crafted for anyone of my skill level, which was slightly above average, to locate. If they were that good they had most likely noticed me on entrance anyway, so I decided to continue acting on good hopes.

Having made it to the classroom I kneeled down in front of the wall separating said room and the floor. Now for the hard part. Over the millennia the Gotei 2 had created some rather unique kido arts fit for spy craft. One of the more useful ones was the ability to make small parts of the world see-through on one side.

So what’s the hard part? First this spell was devised for use in the soul society, manipulating spiritual particles is a lot easier than actual atoms. Second, as with any spell, using it without leaving a trace wasn’t that easy.

I took a deep breath and called upon my discipline. No mistakes allowed, steady casting, no wasted energy. “Spy arts #4 Spy’s window.” I whispered. A few moments later a small square in the wall turned invisible.

I waited for any kind of reaction, ready to flee immediately. But nothing happened. I looked through my window. No one had reacted, the spell had succeeded and no one had noticed. A stream of relief left my lungs.

I scanned the room for the sources of spiritual energy. The first one my eyes fell upon was a giant, I assumed, Mexican with brown hair and skin to match. Next was an Asian with long black hair and glasses, he had the second highest energy in the room but I was fairly sure I could still overpower him if need be. Next was a girl with bright orange hair and, I couldn’t help but notice, enormous breasts.

Ogling was an option I would have considered if it weren’t for the extremely powerful aura coming from the also orange haired boy, currently staring out of the window. Not what I had expected. The thing I had expected even less though was the person sitting behind him. My target, Rukia Kuchiki, emanating not even a drop of spiritual pressure, sitting there and happily drawing on a piece of paper.

Okay, that was mysterious. First off why didn’t she emit any spiritual pressure? Second, where the hell did she get that Gigai from?

After that I tracked her for a time until I found it where she stayed, together with the orange haired boy much to my surprise, before calling it quits for the day. I had found her today I could find her tomorrow, now I had a private matter to attend to: Finding out about my normality powersssssssss…

It was at that moment, sitting next to a garbage bin in an alleyway in front of a rundown emergency clinic that I realized that I could have simply walked into the classroom stare at Rukia for thirty minutes and no one would have even bothered. Even if she had asked me what I was doing here I could have answered “Just going for a walk” and she would have believed me, after all that WOULD have been a normal answer for me.

Well that certainly made my job less exciting. I sighed, stood up and stopped suppressing my spiritual energy. My shoulder hanged down as I left the alleyway, the achievements of the day suddenly looked a lot less exciting.

Where does he test his powers?
