Step mom

"There you are Janice!" Marie, Janice's step mother stepped out to greet her.

"Hey." Janice shot back dead pan. Marie greeted the officer's with a friendly handshake. She signed the paperwork which gave her legal custody of Janice. She was responsible for her health and well being, and accountable for any crimes. Exactly as though Janice were still a minor. For all legal purposes, she was for the next six years!

Now that Janice was released to the custody of her mother, the two officers said goodbye and left. One turned back to speak to Janice.

"Just remember: This is a last chance for you." He said. "Keep your nose clean, or you'll be headed to prison. You're lucky your step mother was willing to do this."

Janice didn't say anything, just rolled her eyes. Everyone was acting like she was a **** dealer! All she'd done was hold something for someone else! She didn't even smoke weed! They were all idiots, anyways.

"Come on in!" Marie said happily. "This is the first time you've been home in three years!"

"Yeah. How amazing." Janice rolled her eyes, following her mother into the house. It looked the same. The same clean, suburban boring house she remembered. She much preferred her own apartment, full of cool decorations, vinyl and beer.

Marie kept a smile plastered on her face, but inwardly she was raging. She and her husband had saved every penny for Janice's college fund, and Janice had blown it all! Even worse, rather then admitting defeat and coming home she'd gotten involved with **** to try to pay debt! And, despite it all, she was still acting aloof and superior. Well, Marie would have to do something about that!

"Your father is at work, and your sister is in school." Marie said.

"Step sister." Janice corrected feistily. Marie grit her teeth under her smiled and continued.

"So it'll just be you and me for the afternoon." Maire said. "I know this is a punishment for you, but it doesn't have to be unpleasant! I was thinking we could do something fun!"

Janice rolled her eyes. What fun was she going to have with her step mom in this stupid house, trapped in this stupid town?
