Chapter 33 by Javalar Javalar

How do you decide?

No further planning - run off immediatly.

You decide that returning home is too great a risk. It's now or never. You pay your bills at the bar, and Sara follows you to your car. Both of you hop in, and you start driving into the night, into another part of the city. As far away as possible from your living quarters, where nobody knows you.

Both of you listen quietly to the radio. The news tell you that a rather famous senator who was known for his zeal to uncover corruption and always being ready for fighting tough battles against the "big business" has been caught by his wife and by the media with his "Happy Maid" in the office - the maid bent over the table, and his dick buried deep inside her. The commentaters assume that his career is more or less over now, and that he certainly will not run again for office next year.

"They took him out", Sara says. "He was poking around too much, and he became dangerous, so they just set up a trap."

"If he had a Happy Maid, how come he was not influenced anyway", you wonder loudly. Sara shrugs. "As far as I have heard, some of us seem more immune to whatever they give us than others. We probably should find other people who have gone into hiding as well. The problem is to actually find them - and not falling into the traps the 'fake' people set for you."

The next news item is about an also quite well known female journalist, who made herself a name with investigative reports, uncovering quite a lot of scandals. She apparently has announced that the wants to retire and concentrate on her role as beloved wife. As far as you know, the woman can't be older than 35. A strange time to end her job and her career.

"She's under the influence of those **** as well", Sara comments.

You switch off the radio and continue in silence for a while.

"Where do we go?", asks Sara finally. You sigh. You have no idea.

"We get a motel somewhere and just stay low", you suggest. "And maybe use our smartphones to research for those other hidden people. We do need to go shopping and stock up, though. I didn't even bring my recharger. I have basically nothing at all on me, besides money and my credit card."

"Do we dare to use our credit cards?", asks Sara. You sigh again, feeling queasy. Too many uncertainties. Too many risks.

"I am not sure this is working", says Sara after a while. "If we just hide, they'll come and find us. Our maids will report us missing. I think they are on my trail already, I was sniffing around a bit the days before I met you. Maybe we should do it all the other way around: Go to the headquarters of Happy Maid Corp and see if we can find out something. Uncover their scheme. Find some evidence that we can show to other people. Maybe lying low and waiting like rabbits in the grass isn't helping. How about we start our own counter attack, they certainly will not expect that."

You think about this while you continue to drive into the suburbs.

What do you want to do?
