Does she explain further?
She's embarrassed
She put her hands up to her face. “Oh god, I’m sorry. I must sound like some sort of sanctiamoniuos slut.”
David shook his head, “No…look, don’t worry about it. I can’t begin to imagine what it’s been like for you all alone.” He touches her on her arm but she pulls away.
An look of embarrassment comes over her face, “Sorry, it’s been so long….I’m not used to being touched.”
“It’s okay, don’t worry about it.” A thought occurs to him. “How long have you been trapped here anyway?”
She sighs and sits on the couch. “I don’t know. It seems like forever. I was actually beginning to believe that I was dead and that this was hell before you showed up.” She began to cry again. “I’m sorry…I’m sorry, I must seem like a broken record…”
He sat down next to her care causiously put his arm round her shoulder. She wept for a short time and then composed herself. “That’s it. No more crying. I promise.”
David took his arm away and said, “That’s a promise I’m not going to hold you to.”
She smiled. She wiped the last of the tears from her face and said, “I’m going to take my shower now. Now that I have somebody else here, I have to start looking after my personal hygenie again.” She stood up, gathered a few clothes and a towel from the floor and headed for the master bathroom. She stood in the doorway and said, “If you want to, put a movie into the VCR or fix yourself something to eat.”
David said thanks and she shut the door. He looked through the tapes. “Dirty Dancing”, “When Harry met Sally”, “Flashdance”, “Top Gun”, all movies he had seen a million times before. He didn’t feel like watching anything anyway and went into the kitchen. He shook his head in wonder. This room was bigger than his apartment. He opened up the fridge. “Not much here,” he thought. There were a few very old apples, some unnamed pasta in a plastic container, and a few cans of Tab. He smiled and picked up one, “I can’t believe they still make this stuff, I haven’t seen any since I was a kid.” He took a can out a wandered around the apartment.
The entire place was in the same state of the living room, clothes and litter all over the floors. It looked as if she had loved here for quite sometime. He began to feel a sense of dread. She didn’t know how long she had been here. From the looks of things around here, it’s been months, maybe more than a year….He sat back down on the couch and tried to remember how he got here.
He was so deep in thought that he didn’t even hear her as she walked up. He jumped when she said “Uh, hi again.”
“Shit!” He said as he nearly dropped his bottle. “You scared the hell…” he looked up at her and never finished his sentence. His mouth hung open as he looked upon her. The mud and dirt was gone, and her pale skin seemed to glow as she stood in a sunbeam. Her hair, only partly dried from her towel, hung in loose spirals around a face that could have been sculpted out of marble. Pale pink lips and deep brown eyes were set in perfect proportion to the rest of her face. She looked down at him with concern, “What? Is something wrong?”
“Uh…no, no” he stammered, “I just wasn’t expecting you to clean up so... nice.”
With a look of amused shock she replied, “Well, thanks a bunch! You sure know how to make a girl feel special.”
