Where to next?
Her old place
She said, “I used to live in a penthouse apartment not far from here. “ She grabbed his hand. “Come on, it’s this way.”
She led him to a huge skyscraper. Its windows reflected bright sunlight, but when David turned around to find the source of the light, he noticed there was no sun in the sky. “What the hell?”
She turned toward him and followed his eyes. “Oh, the sun, yeah. That’s why I call this place the Underground. There’s no sun. Not just the city, everywhere. No sun, no stars, no moon, nothing but sky. In the day it’s blue and a night it’s black.”
David looked at her and said, “What about dawn and twilight?”
She shuddered, “I…I hope you never find out.”
They entered an elevator and began the long ride up. When they past the thirteenth floor the lights in the elevator dimmed for a second. David looked questioningly at her. She shook her head, “I’ve tried getting off at that floor, but when you stop there, all the lights go out and the doors won’t open. It’s the same in every building, even if you take the stairs.”
The elevator came to a stop on at the top floor. The doors opened to a lavish apartment. Strewn all over were very expensive clothes and half eaten plates of food. She picked up a fur coat and tossed it out of the way, “Sorry about the mess. I don’t have much company.”
David looked around in wonder, “This place in incredible,” he walked over to a huge picture window facing a balcony, “You actually live here?”
“Lived here.” She corrected him, “I used to live here. It got too lonely after awhile.” She laughed to herself, “You know, I don’t have any idea how long I’ve been her actually…” She sighed then shook her head, “I’m just glad I’m not alone anymore.” A look of fear passed over her. “You aren’t going to leave me are you?”
David saw the fear and threw up his hands, “No, I don’t want to. Even if I did, I wouldn’t know where to go.” He gestured around as his make his statement and noticed a large pink dildo lying on a pile of magazines and movies.
Her eyes followed his and her face turned bright red. She ran over and covered up the pile with some clothes. She awkwardly tried to explain, “Like I said, I’ve been alone for so long and well…for a woman to go that long without company …”
David smiled and interupted, “Um, I’m a guy. I think I can understand.”
Her face turned deadly serious, “Oh no you can’t.”
Does she explain further?
