Chapter 32 by Cantalope Cantalope

Run or bargain?

Bargain

Pushing aside the uncomfortable heat that radiated through your body with every heartbeat, you dismount. Raising you hands placatingly toward the demon, you beckon it closer. It blinks owlishly then begins to slowly stalk closer, reaching between trees as if to support itself despite its otherworldly grace. It moves at an angle towards you, shielded mostly by trees so that you never see it in its entirety. The effect is even more intimidating than if it had charged you; the flickers of red through the underbrush screamed to some primal part of you to run but you hold your ground. You hold up a hand when you deem it has gotten close enough, the other tightening around the holy sword. It slows to a crawl, dropping into a crouch as its eyes flick to the sword, "You recognize this don't you? Any closer and I'll have to use it." It blinks and returns its unwavering stare to you.

You were beginning to question if this was the right choice: something about this demon felt... wrong. Even more so than the others you'd encountered. There was zero humanity in its eyes, not even the snide mockery most sentient demons bore. Well the sword had given it pause so maybe it could be reasoned with. After a moments consideration you decide the best approach is to be blunt, "I know you want to fuck... and some other time I might even take you up on it but I really can't be bothered at the moment. However, I could point you towards a very attractive, very unsuspecting, very fertile, young woman back the way I came." The demon follows the direction of your outstretched arm then returns its yellow gaze to you. It blinks.

...

"...She's much more well endowed than I am and she has the loveliest black hair. Oh and you won't believe her hips..." Its gaze never wavers from you. There was something about its eyes, they seemed to pulsate in time with your body... you shake yourself. The demon is several feet closer though you don't recall it moving. You backpedal towards Aegis, using the excuse to avert your eyes as you pat the horses snout, pretending to calm him. Truth be told the horse seemed much more relaxed then you were, "Or I suppose you could try and **** yourself on me... but be warned, I will not be an easy catch."

You were on shaky ground now and you knew it, if the demon didn't take the bait you were practically defenseless. You weren't even sure the holy sword would work on a demon without one of the faithful to give it power. You kept the demon in your peripheral vision, watching carefully but not wanting to risk getting caught in those eyes again. It doesn't move for several long moments but then shifts and slides away through the trees towards Indra's house, not taking its eyes off you but receding away all the same. Soon it disappears into the trees and you let out a long breath of relief. Turning back to Aegis, you find him staring off in the direction of the demon. He doesn't seem to be blinking. You snap your fingers in front of him and the horse starts, neighing alarmedly before you reign him back in, "easy Aegis, easy. I knew there was something wrong with that things stare. Let's get out of here before it comes back." You mount up and hurry Aegis on his way back to the road, glancing wistfully back towards Indra's cottage. Whatever guilt you might have harbored about betraying a friend was overshadowed by the disappointment of not seeing what lustful intentions the demon had for her. You rock your hips against the saddle, the throbbing of the demons venom almost painful as you drift off in fantasies about the beautiful witch being ravished by demons...

The road?
