That was the last thing I remembered that night - by the time I woke up, it was five in the morning. Amy had snuggled against me, with my weapon still embedded in her sheath. No words were spoken as she too roused from slumber. No words were needed as we smiled at each other. Apparently the other girls sneaked back to their lovers and left us to ourselves.
Aside from the occasional grin and blush, this was much of our interaction with the other pairs while we tidied up and bundled out of the room to check out of the hotel. Ten cars were already waiting for us as we exited the lobby, and drove away in ten separate directions.
Little did we know, it was also the beginning of the end of our little group. Following the romp in the hotel, everyone ended up falling back into our established pairs - Corrine and Elizabeth even started going out with their respective dates, much to our delight. But after the news broke, we saw even less of them than we already did; if I saw any of the girls, it was typically with whoever she was attached to.

Perhaps it was due to how we were already used to setting time aside each day, but rarely did a day go by without us having the chance to meet up. "We - " I paused, realizing that I had no answer.
"Goddammit, Ian," groaned Corrine. "Don't tell me you've been doing nothing but having sex whenever you see each other!"
I shook my head glumly. The matter had honestly fled my brain after the weeks of mind-blowing sex.
"I thought things were going great as is," I muttered. "I mean, she's not seeing anyone - "
"Ian, that's not going to be enough! If you don't clear the air between the two of you it's going to be worse when you have to see each other off!" Corrine sternly lectured me. "It doesn't matter how monogamous you're being!"
"But..."
"Look, I know you two have something amazing going on right now. And don't get me wrong, it's a miracle that you and Amy have stuck it out so far," she admitted. "But you two need to make that decision by yourselves, okay? I don't want to see either of you get hurt."
I left that meeting in a daze. I didn't want to say it, but Corrine had hit the nail on the head. She asked the question that I realized I'd been avoiding. What was our relationship? Was it love, or just two people seeing each other? And what did Amy think?
There was no chance to ask her. I would lose all my nerve whenever I saw her, and the confident way she carried herself, without betraying a single hint of doubt or uncertainty. It was how Amy had always been, and I loved her for it. But was it enough?
The summer days of sweet, sultry sex passed us by, like sand in an hourglass. Sand that I was now painfully aware was running out.
