The world turned upside down and into a tempest of glass and metal as the two cars collided. Matt felt immense pain and then numbness. His last clear sight and thought was how large a pool of blood he had made on the asphalt.

Matt awoke to blackness. He swam in it. He breathed it. He was carried by it. It whispered in his ear. He knew the words they had to say were critical, but their whispers were too quiet and each whisper overlaid on top of other whispers, fighting for his attention, but spoiling any chance of success by trying.

Matt limply floated there for who knows how long.
Finally a clear question drifted in.

"Are you done?"

Matt let the question sit with him...
