Chapter 2

Do you leave the village?
A few days later... as Martin Bonatel
The woods outside the village are quiet for the most part and many of the villagers tend to avoid it cause they think the forest-people will punish them for hunting within it's bounds. Not you, however, you don't care. You hear a rustle to the left and see an elk head to the nearby stream. You don't move and wait in the bush for the elk to tip it's head into the water. You breath deeply in as you aim your arrow. Loose! The arrow flies past the elk and hits the water, sure enough your dinner starts running away. "Damn it," you say as you leave your hidden position and decide, "Fuck it, I'm going home."
You are Martin Bonatel, brother to Madeline. Unlike women, men do not add d' to their last name and maintain the status and name of their family when they marry. Well, that'd be nice if you have any status as you are but another son of a simple farmer. You have black hair, medium length with a stripe of silver-white hair on the left side of your head. There was some rumor that your mother had slept with a traveler back many years and that's why you have that stripe of silver hair. You also heard a rumor that people who say rumors are morons, so you don't know exactly what to believe. You are lithe, but not overly muscular as a farmer's diet doesn't exactly have the nutrition needed for that type of growth. You are 2'' taller than your father at 6'. You were about 4 years old when your uncle taught you everything he knew of hunting from skinning, tracking, and fletching to archery, though as earlier proved you need more practice. You have deep blue eyes and hands made rough by hard work. Your face is tanned from being out in the sun too much and you wear the furs of the animals you have hunted along with simple cloth pants and a shirt. As you are 19 years of age, it is expected of you to marry soon.
You've been out in the woods and countryside hunting for game for the past month and all you have to show for it is a few fox-furs and some salted meat. The furs will fetch a good price, about a silver total as all the ladies in the city like to wear them, but the meats are just for your family. You walk by The Dancing Cock and are greeted by its owner, "How fares it Martin?"
"Better than some days, worse than most," you reply.
"Saw your sister?"
"What do you mean?" you ask.
"Talk to your father, he'll explain best," he replies.
You pick up the pace as you head up the hill home and to your increasing worry your sister isn't waiting, looking out into the distance for you by the chicken hens as she always does when she gets all thoughtful and depressed. You enter your home and are greeted by your father drunkenly, "Sooon!" Oh no, he swore off drink years ago. "Father, what happened to my sister," you ask, worried that she might have been taken by some bandit or attacked by some animal.
"Your sister is a thief and no daughhhter of mine," he slurs out.
"What do you mean?" Damn it Madeline, what did you do, you think to yourself.
"Shee took all of our silverr for next yearrrs seed; now we're truly fucked, pooor than the poor we were before." He said.
"That doesn't like something she would do," you say.
"Well, she did, went off on her dreams or whatever shite she always wants to do with all of our money," he replies.
"I can find her and she can explain herself then," you say. "If you do go after her and find her the only thing you need to do is take back our silver and leave her for dead," your father says.
"Madeline, how could you do this to us?" you think. "I'll find you so help me gods, and you'll have some explaining to do."
You grab some more arrows, some meat for the road, and a fresh set of clothes. It'll turn dark soon so you get some kindling and flint as well. "Son," you turn around and face your mother. "Mother, don't worry I've traveled much around countryside outside the village and avoided all types of danger."
"that's not why I've come to talk to you," your mother says, "You need to abandon this folly. Let your sister be."
"But," you are bout to say when you are interrupted, "but she took our money, I know, just let her be. If you leave and we lose you then our farm is for sure finished, but if you stay and help us on the farm as opposed to the hunting you normally do we should be able to make ends meet for a rough year." It doesn't particularly sound appealing for you to finally become a full-time farmer, but would you risk your family just because you selfishly don't want to be reduced from your position as a hunter?
Do you leave to find your sister or stay?
