Expedition Discovery

You expect, barring any surprises, the mission should be straightforward - you are escorting a large fleet of civilian mining ships to a neighboring solar system, a 12 hour flight. You deem your carrier flagship, Achilles, the heavy cruiser Vanguard, three light cruisers, four destroyers and four frigates as sufficient escort.

Halfway into the flight, your newly appointed surveillance operator, a young petite blonde, shouts, "Admiral, we have a problem! There is a...supercarrier emerging from slipspace about one million miles to our starboard side."

"Any other vessels?"

"None, sir, just the carrier," she replies.

A supercarrier this far from the central planets? You are puzzled but curious.
