Chapter 44 by v9 v9

What does Lynn report back?

Lynn tells you about a group of adventurers approaching.

The twists and turns in the road give plenty of locations for setting an ambush so you call an immediate halt to your zombies as you wait for Lynn to deliver her news.

She informs you that you there looks to be a party of five mid-level adventurers approaching up the path, all of whom are armed and ready for trouble. She reports that the party of heroic adventurers (i.e. victims) look to be a male barbarian, male fighter, a male cleric, female rogue and a male bard, she doesn't think that they spotted her which gives you a couple of choices on how to lay a trap for them making the most of your element of surprise.

You decide on the plan quickly, first of all Tri-Klops is put to sleep by Lynn before you outline your plan to the rest of your party and preparations are made to greet your latest victims.
You order the zombies to surround one of the carts while waving their arms around and moaning before hiding in the woods with Lynn and Sara as far down the road as you can. Annie removes her helmet to allow the heroes to see her golden hair before she casts her strengthen undead spell to buff your servants, she then joins Dave01rocks inside the cart waving their weapons around while Annie screams and Dave01rocks adds to the moans. From your new hiding place in the trees it looks quite convincing with Annie surprisingly adept at playing the maiden in distress.

The heroes soon arrive and leap into action to rescue the fair maiden, the rogue moves to the treeline before loosing arrows at the zombies but it's largely ineffectual as she doesn't score headshots, the bard hangs back as he starts to sing an inspiring song in support of his colleagues while the fighter, barbarian and cleric move to engage the zombies in melee. You wait until the melee fighters are fully committed before you make your move as the rogue manages to finally pick off a couple of your zombies. At your signal Lynn casts a sleep spell on the rogue while Sara starts lobbing fireballs at the heroes about to engage in combat, you command your zombies to attack the heroes while you close the distance on the bard casting your Fear spell on the heroes as you do so.

The combined **** has the planned effect causing confusion amongst the heroes as your surprise attack from behind catches them off guard. The heroes melee fighters turn to confront their ambushers but they hesitate so before they can attack you the zombies start tearing at them.

The bard senses your approach and draws his sword lunging forth as he attacks, his strikes are swift and you struggle to parry with your more cumbersome spectral axe yet the hits he lands cause minimal damage. Your opponent is quicker and more skilled, for every axe swing you take his sword answers with three, although he is unable to directly block the weight of your axe he is able to deflect your blows and answer with a hit against your armour, just as you begin to get frustrated Lynn casts her Darkness spell over you and the bard. Realising what has happened the bard reaches into his backpack to drink a potion but before he can swig it down you dismiss your axe then lunge forward to wrestling him to the ground as you pin his sword between you both as the potion is knocked to the ground. Using your Darkvision you can see the bard but he can't see you, he squirms underneath as you begin to rain blows down upon him with your fists, he instinctively blocks the first flurry but you change your target to where he's not defending himself, since he is physically weaker you eventually break through his guard to beat him ****.

Satisfied with your victory you turn to survey how the others are fairing, the sleeping rogue has had her hands and feet bound by Sara, the fighter is down on the ground, the barbarian wearing only a loincloth and bracers is using his two-handed sword to keep the zombies which surround him at bay while Annie laughs maniacally as she exchanges blows with the cleric. Quite a few of your zombies have been dispatched but that was to be expected and they are considered expendable casualties.

Summoning your axe you move to attack the cleric from behind, he looks to be large bulky guy wearing full plate Orcish armour while wielding a mace and shield. As you swing at his head he ducks under your blow then turns and strikes you with his shield which stuns you for a moment. The cleric swings another blow towards Annie which she blocks before he brings his heavy mace against your shoulder which you immediately feel goes limp as the **** of the blow breaks bones. The cleric turns back to exchange another blow with Annie, unable to wield the weight of the axe with one arm you dismiss it before trying to strike him using your touch of decay with your good arm but the cleric sidesteps before battering Annie's shield with his mace then turns back to knock you to the ground with a spin kick.

You have a moment to reflect whether your overconfidence in not using your shield spell or calling vermin to aid you will result in your redeath as well as the similarity of your previous battle with a cleric before a fireball hits the cleric in the chest causing him to stagger back and be distracted enough for Annie to strike him from behind. She strikes a strong blow but it's not enough to defeat him with one blow, Sara keeps casting fireballs with Lynn throwing lightning bolts at him while Annie rains blows down upon him with her mace. The onslaught is too much and the cleric finally collapses, defeated by teamwork.

As you lie in the path you take the time to heal your shoulder which with your power doesn't take too long. As you regain your feet you see that the barbarian hasn't yet been defeated with eight or so zombies lying dismembered before him. As soon as he sees you the barbarian identifies you as the leader and enters into a berserk rage swinging his sword wildly as he cuts a path towards you. The zombie collapse into heaps as the barbarian strikes them down with the enhanced strength born of righteous fury. With your shoulder healed you quickly cast your shield spell and summon your spectral axe as your prepare to meet the beserker without full HP. Annie stands before him but he strikes her shield with such **** that it splinters into pieces, she manages to hit strike him back but in his rage he doesn't notice, instead he kicks her in the vagina before shoulder barging her to knock her to the ground.

Lynn tries her sleep spell but he shrugs it off, even the fireball and lightning spells don't seem to have any real impact. He soon reaches you and strikes you with a physical strength greater than anything you have faced before, you block the blow with your axe but the barbarians power is so great your axe shimmers at the impact as if it was nearly destroyed by the strength of his blow. You quickly cede ground, Lynn casts her Darkness spell to give you an advantage but it doesn't seem to affect him with each of his blows barely blocked.

As he continues to **** you to gig ground you backtrack across the road, you expect his beserek state to wear off but it seems as though he gets stronger with each blow. Your shield spell reaches zero HP and disappears as the barbarians onslaught continues before the powerful strikes from his impressive sword. You keep stepping back trying to avoid his attacks until your back is against a tree, the barbarian delights in your predicament and seeking to take advantage puts all his impressive strength behind a strike aimed at your head as you duck underneath his strike. His sword embeds itself in the treetrunk with the blade stuck fast in the wood, he tries to pull it free but before he can the first of your zombies claws at him. The barbarian almost contemptuously elbows it in the face but another takes it's place, he shrugs it off but another claws at him. You watch as he turns and confronts his attackers, in his blind rage he leaps unarmed at the first zombie smashing it the ground yet he doesn't notice as the rest of your zombies close in on him.

You watch as he disappears under the weight of numbers.

Do you decide to let the zombies devour him?
