Chapter 12

FallenSaint
Do you stand a chance against this guy?
Not in the slightest. Alone at least...
You size up the man. He's big, clearly going for the intimidating look while creating the character. His crossbow isn't your main concern, but that sword looked wicked. The runes were obviously magic and you didn't know what they did. He was a lot stronger than you and you had crappy gear... It would take too long to get your new gear from Val, and that was assuming she even had time to get it.
You had 12% of a plan in mind to fight this guy when he charged, that damn creepy smile never leaving his face. You were going to try to block the attack, but Val yelled for you to move. It was a split second decision, but you dive to the side. One of the runes on the Hunter's sword glowed as he swung, sending a shock wave blasting the spot you had been. Defending wasn't going to be a good option. You didn't need strength for this, you needed speed.
"Val! Give me some speed!"
Her music can soon be heard and your speed stat is boosted greatly. The Hunter's smile turns to a grimace for a moment, but he soon puts it back in place as he charges again. This time you are able to dodge a lot easier. You put some distance between you before use your Lord's Call ability. Three level 5 lesser flame dragons appear and begin to stalk the Hunter, gushing flames in his direction. The Hunter begins to back towards the town, trying to figure out his next move, but you aren't going to allow that.
You quickly take to the air and begin launching Venom Darts his way. The Hunter easily blocks them, but one of the flame dragons manages to get in close and deliver a Burning Bite attack. The Hunter is set ablaze and you can hear him curse in frustration as he raises his sword to strike the offending lesser dragon down. Before the he can do so, you land behind him and continue your barrage of Venom Darts. Two hit him square in the back while another hits his sword arm's elbow. His swing goes wide and the dragon is only knocked back instead of killed.
By now, the other dragons have gotten the idea and have taken to flanking him and launching fire his way. When he tries to make his way towards one of you, the plan is simply to back off and let him take continual burn and poison damage until he turns his attention to one of the other dragons attacking him from his other sides. It takes a while, but soon you are rewarded with a strangled, cursing scream as he drops to his knees. You start to move in to deliver the final blow, but suddenly Val's song cuts off and two of her bombs land at the Hunter's feet. You can't see his face but you hear him say "Shiiiit!" before the bombs explode and finish him off.
Val yells triumphantly, while calling the man all manner of rather cruel and dirty things. She then looks at you with a big smile on her face. You had managed to get a good deal of experience from the kill, but Val had gotten more. She was now level 8.
"Um, Val, don't you think you should have let me get the kill? I'm the main fighter here."
"Yes, but if you had done it, we would have lost some great gear!"
She reaches into her bag and presents you with the rune sword. She then pulls out his crossbow, hat, boots, and long coat. She equips everything and squeals in delight at how high her defensive scores go. You look at the sword for a moment before equiping it. The sword is amazing. Your attack triples and the runes... My Gods, the runes! The shock wave is its main attack, but you see that it can also ignore 25% of an enemy's armor and a third rune caused you to be able to increase your defense rating once per battle.
It was hard to be mad about her stealing the kill with this kind of bounty.... But then you realize you are still right beside the town and Heroes were starting to take notice of the fight that had just occurred. You give another Lord's Call and four more lesser dragons appear. These are a mix of wind, earth, and flame dragons. You then order your seven dragon companions to attack the village. Val looks at you in shock for a moment.
"You want to destroy the town?"
"Not necessarily. I want to slow down pursuit. But if they raze it, then I see no reason to worry over it."
She looks at your advancing dragons and a sly smile lights her face.
"Shall we join them then? Maybe we can spread our fame a little and get you closer to your goal with it?"
Attack the town or run?
