Chapter 30

Does anything stop you from leaving as soon as your party is gathered up or are you ready to go as soon as they meet you at the gate?
My Master's lap dog is waiting to bark at me, apparently.
As you head to the main gate, you see that dark and shadowy hooded figure that is almost always at your master's side standing there waiting for you. Again, Uldar's features are vague and unknowable beneath the voluminous cloak "he" wears, but you can somehow sense a gaze burning into you as you approach. The Master's lap dog is glaring at you, baring his metaphorical (or literal, for all you knew) fangs like a threatened hound defending territory and marking their place in a pack.
You are not surprised by this. From the very beginning, Uldar has been trying to assert his dominance over you and you can guess why. The Master's right hand is threatened by your very existence, seeing you as a rival for his place at the master's side and that is a fair assumption. You are, after all, your master's prime minion, created from his very essence and expected to do great things. Eventually, as your power grows, you have no doubt that you will stand at your master's side as his most trusted of minions and that, you think, is also something Uldar knows and something he fears. As well he should.
"Minion! Off to fulfill our Master's wishes, I see.", Uldar's voice whispers out from within the darkness of the hood he wears, moving to you in a way that seems more like gliding than walking as he comes up to you, "He has much faith in you, it seems, if he is trusting you to leave the citadel and complete your mission. You are still but a mewling babe, however, and so I wonder if you can truly meet the Master's expectations."
You stand straight and tall (or as tall as you can as a goblin) and do not flinch back from Uldar as he comes right up to you and states his condescending opinion. "Minion will not fail Master. Master's faith will be earned.", you reply, your burning red eyes fixed upon the shadows that seem to swirl beneath Uldar's hood, "Master's power runs in Minion's blood. Minion is powerful. Minion will rise up and stand beside Master...soon."
You emphasize that word, "soon", and there is no mistaking the challenge in your gaze and your voice as you face off with Uldar (as well as you can with somebody who appears to have no face). Your eyes burn and, though you can't see them yourself, you can sense the glow of them growing more intense as you stare the hooded figure down. And, perhaps despite himself, that gaze that is so much like your master's causes Uldar to flinch back ever so slightly from you.
"...Perhaps. And perhaps not. We shall see, Minion.", he hisses at you, unable to hide the bitterness in his voice as he moves to walk by and past you, "The Master says not to kill any of the harpies, if it can be helped. Any that stand in your way as you make your way to the mountain, however, are yours to do with what you would. So says our Master."
So that was the real reason he'd been here, to relate a message from the Master to you. The shadowy right hand man of the Dark One had simply decided to take the opportunity to test your mettle and try to assert himself over you. You were glad that you were able to make sure it was he who backed off from you when things were said and done. He knew now that you were not a lowly goblin of the normal sort to be ordered around and mistreated. You were not his minion. He was not above you. But, soon enough, you would be above him. This, you knew.
Uldar walks away just as your team of goblins, newly armed and armored and bearing leather packs for supplies, approach. The males wear leather armor and bear a variety of melee weapons between them. Blackmane, as befits her place as your second on this mission, procured better equipment for herself, her leather armor lacquered and black and her weapons a pair of twin daggers instead of a simple sword. In addition to this, she has a quiver of arrows and a bow slung over her shoulder and you wonder if she actually has any skill with the weapon or if sh chose it simply to be different. You suppose you'll find out sooner rather than later.
The five goblins approach you and kneel, showing their submission to you as their leader. "Chieftain Minion. We are ready.", Blackmane reports and, as you look them over, you decide that they are indeed ready.
"Then we go.", you order succinctly and turn towards the large doors that lead outside of the citadel. The black wood of the door seems to shine glossily and you nod as you step towards the doors and press your palm to them. You barely have to exert any effort before the doors start to open, recognizing the essence of your Master's magical power within you and bending to your will without your having to **** them open. They open up and your way is clear to leave the Master's citadel for the first time in your short existence.
Your journey begins with an opening door. What sights meet you on the other side of that door?
Memoirs of a Minion
Fight, kill, die and fuck for your evil master (not necessarily in that order)!
Inspired by the immensely entertaining CHYOO story "Game Monster" by Cantalope and the very awesome video game, Overlord, in this story you are a magically spawned minion-type creature (goblin, zombie, ghoul, dark knight, etc) born to live, fight and die for your evil overlord master. Serve your master well and survive the many pitfalls of minion-dom and rise up above the rank of fodder for heroes to your overlord's right hand. Fail or betray your master (and get caught doing so) and meet your gruesome and horrible . In either case, you'll be sure to fight, kill and (if you're lucky)defile heroes and other creatures and foes along the way, all in the name of your dark master!
