Chapter 30

Which door do you chose?

The One Behind the Altar

Knowing 'She who hesitates is lost.' you turn to the door behind the altar and ease it open. Inside is a brightly lit room, looking like a 'siting room' you have heard them called, decorated with mismatched furniture and curios. However, what overjoys you is that you see your brood mother, sitting in a chair, sipping tea with another woman, who is dressed in brown robes embroidered with the same symbol as was carved in the door, a circle of ten Bane Worms surrounding a Rat King.

"Ah, she is recovered!" The woman whom you don't know says looking at you.

You were chosen to go out of the forest partially because you are quick on the uptake, and look at the woman before you curiously, saying: "Yes, I am, now; whom might you be?"

"A thousand pardons honored one, I am Elsie Moran, apostle to the prophetess of Nimrev and commander of this temple to him. 'Brierindra of the Lilac Glades' is already known to you, and has brought you here that we may serve each other's mutual needs. You wish to have brood mothers for your eggs, we wish to have a legion of free roaming spiders to serve our god, these seem complimentary goals do they not?" The Priestess intones solemnly.

You do a quick check of her stats and while your at it Brierindra's too:

Human: 5th level Priestess of Nimrev.
HP: 50/50
Conditions: None.

Elf: 11th level Mesmer.
HP: 55/55
Conditions: Pregnant, Spider Infested.

You recognize the Italicized condition as one you can only see because you already knew about it, to those who didn't know what to look for all that would appear was the "Pregnant", which would be safe enough, they would probably assume that she had met a fetching human or elf on her travels, and thus gotten with child. All you had to do was keep her out of sight during the final stage of the pregnancy, when the young spiders began to move in their eggs as they got ready to be born, which DID NOT look anything like a humanoid baby kicking.

This brought you back to the human, Elsie Moran, and her offer of providing more brood mothers for you, in exchange for your children serving HER cause. It's a tempting offer, but there are perforce strings attached, some of which you are not sure you can wriggle out of, and you are also not sure you wish to be so bound. Yet, on still another hand, perhaps she could provide you with something ELSE you needed, a strike team to secure one of your brothers to mate with you so you would have more than three or at most four implantations left for the next ten months or so?

Decisions, Decisions, do you agree with her proposal, reject it, or ask to think it over?
